Sound issues with wireless headset - SteelSeries Arctis 9x

Whenever I connect my wireless headset (SteelSeries Arctis 9x) and change the audio output to the headphones in the settings>audio menu the game sound turns into a high pitch tone that will go on for 10 seconds, go to normal game audio for 1 second and then go back to the high pitch tone. I have updated the firmware for the headset, updated my onboard sound drivers, installed the SteelSeries software to see if that helps, but nothing fixes the issue. This is the only game with this issue and I play over 10 multiplayer games regularly. It would be really nice if the devs could try and help me troubleshoot the issue.
