Performance needs to be addressed

LessmannLessmann Member Posts: 2 Civilian

Before the shadows update ran the game pretty well with 75-60 frames after the shadow update dropped the frames pretty much lowered drastically to 60-50. now after the USMC release it went even more lower than before no matter which map.

System

RX590 8GB 100% utilization

16gb Ram

Ryzen 5 5600G at stock 40-50% utilization depends

Cpu utilization is a meme and should be improved. enable multithreading to the core and allow systems with multiple cpus to perform better.

you keep adding and adding without thinking about the broad consequences. i've heard systems with higher tier specs than mine have even lower performance. the reseting of cache emptying directx shaders wont anymore work with the game.

Please owi FIX.

For years I was able to play the game, albeit at less than what can be considered optimal framerates (usually around 30-45 frames in most situations). With the v2.12 shadow overhaul my framerates were dropped well below my already low standards to maybe 20-25 frames at best.

    System Specs:

    GTX960 2GB

    24GB DDR3 RAM

    AMD FX6300 CPU

Game installed on SSD. 1920x1080 Monitor.

Of course I am not expecting any miracles here for a decade old budget build that was already below the recommend specs for the game ~2019 but it was certainly dissapointing to see a game that is nearing a decade old itself suddenly become unplayable, especially when that game is one of your favorites.

I would have been content to just concede that my computer was simply too old and not complain about the update until I noticed that this was an issue impacting all but maybe the highest tier of computers. I figure if I can add my voice to those that are struggling to keep playing the game, helping get this issue the attention it deserves, then whether or not I get any trickle down effects of (hopefully) future optimization efforts it will be worth the effort.

I don't really think that a game should be held back by folks with ancient computers like myself but I am certain that it shouldn't be expected that players are required to upgrade their computers just to make up for a poor update when their hardware is still very capable.

Yes, my fps drops from 80---40

Thats not even playable now, having 2070super, and still having this kind of performance now.

The game not even loading whole cpu and gpu above 60, thanks.

Thanks for making useless updates for gun content

    first time?

Unreal game thread isn't something OWI(or maybe anyone) has the technical ability to fix.

New map is kinda garbage in many ways. Performance wise I think it's somewhat like fallujah - too much garbage littered around the map. (less than fallujah but it also has higher draw distance)

its their own frking owicore which they can fix with many things in mind example allowing multithreading. the things they add like post process effects etc can be tweaked too inside the ue4 dunno what you are on about. this needs to be addressed. issue here is that people were able to play the game with acceptable frames above 60 then they released the shadow update which many took a huge hit. the update can be optimized for sure and the company have manpower to do it. its like we are still on EARLY ACCESS and patches which werent asked for are getting in.

    Still UE4.

They can't just flip a switch to "enable multithreading" because there already is multithreading. (for example physics and sound should be running on separate threads)

The problem is UE4 game thread(game logic...etc., also bloated by blueprint iirc; but you need blueprint...etc. to make mods work) could only run on one core, this is something they can't change.

I'm not making an excuse for OWI; it certainly is their fault that performance tanked(forced shadows, shader changes, too many statics on map...etc.) but game being bottlenecked by a single thread is something that's out of their hands(still technically their fault because they chose the engine and decided "nah dx12 ain't worth it"). Also entirely their fault that system requirement is extremely inaccurate(not that it means anything since it doesn't mention expected performance).
