Bring back the VIP mode

Recommended Posts

A Squad has to protect and company a 3 vehicle(one truck and two humvees) convoy with one VIP to extraction.

The VIP is a highly ranked terrorist leader that was captured and needed for questioning and intel.

On foot the Squad will protect and lead the vehicles to the extraction. The VIP can be placed in the vehicles (any of the three) the Squad nor the enemy can get in the vehicles or operate them. You can take control of the VIP at any given time but remember keeping the VIP in a vehicle is the safest and best way to keep the VIP away from the enemy. If you were to die while having the VIP in your possession, the VIP can run from you and be closer to the enemy to take. Also, if you place the VIP in the vehicle (the VIP is cuffed and told to stay put) but if left unattended, and the closes Squad member is 15-20m away the VIP can exit the vehicle and try to run.

The drivers of the vehicles are only for show. The vehicles are operated and told which way to go, turn, stop and go by the Squad leader. If the Squad leader were to die, next in charge is in control.

There will be narrow roads, sharp turns, debri filled, mountain terrain paths for the vehicles. I would say 3 paths maybe 4 would be enough. Each path has its decoys, breaches, resistance. Maybe no resistance depending on the enemy's plans.

The Squad wins by extracting the VIP or killing the enemys. The enemy wins by taking the VIP away from the Squad or eliminating the Squad.

I could see this working as a cooperative game mode. However, I am not sure about player vs. player.

So, 8 armed guys and one VIP spread over 3 unarmored or lightly armored vehicles? I hope they don't have to stick to the roads and can just MadMax it to the safe zone.

Insurgency is the only game i know by far that has VIP extraction-Ambush. I hope Squad can implement that. That would be CRAZY nice

You don't necessarily know you're going to get hit at any one particular location. There can be several possible destinations for the VIP. You can make it so that OpFor won't be present at all these locations due to logistical reasons. For example, you can have OpFor spawn at one random location on the map, and as such OpFor won't be able to set up an ambush at every location.

Also, if you just need to go from point A to point B, why not always set up an ambush near point B? That definitely takes out the element of surprise.

how about there are 3 extraction points, and the VIP can be taken to either. or there are 2 possible locations and one is the real one?? hmm

I seriously don't think a mode like this could work unless there's a reliable way for the Insurgents to know where the VIP is (or more importantly where he's going to be) without BLUFOR knowing that they know.

I already gave a suggestion on how this would work.

I don't think you did.

I think one of us didn't quite understand what the other meant.

If your suggestion was, if I understood correctly one that would still allow BLUFOR to guess when and where they're going to be ambushed without necessarily knowing for sure, you really didn't.

What I meant was, they should have no idea and nowhere should feel safe.

I would presume, especially in extremely hostile areas, soldiers that are protecting a VIP assume there is a threat everywhere they are escorting the VIP, and realistically there isn't going to be an ambush for the vast majority of cases.

Basically, a VIP gets escorted from A to B, including possible destinations in between. A is the start and B is the finish-line.

Assume there are no destinations in between A and B. If OpFor don't know the location of B, and the map is sufficiently large - the two teams may rarely engage in any skirmish. What's the fun in that? This is ultimately a game. You want both sides to engage at some point, the question is the element of surprise. You need to balance the two.

Especially on large maps, OpFor needs to be given some sort of intel on VIP destinations, so that strategy and preparations can be made. Presumably, this is what happens in reality. BluFor won't know when or where to expect trouble.

this seems to be a good idea.

I would go further and call this person a diplomat in game.

Like the Talibans have the diplomat, as a hostage, and the US has the Terrorist Leader as a transportation goal
