Why do i lag when i see people?

Recommended Posts

I’ve been getting annoying problem were my  screen freezes sometimes when i am in front of an enemy . It has gotten me killed quite a number of times or it starts lagging when arty comes in. Specs: 1050 gtx( playing on a laptop)

              12gb ram

               Cpu  Icore 5 7300hq

textures: medium

shadows: medium

effects: high

View distance: high

distance shadows: on

could it be also internet lag?

i wouldn't think latency is the issue (guess)

can you try lowering your Effects level down a notch? (see wot happens)

since it's only 'sometimes' this may be hard to track down. may also be related to on-demand loading textures for the soldier model.

- (playing in the SDK) every time i set off a charge/ied for testing - only one per test - when triggered, the framerate drops to about 1 or 2 fps, for the explosion - i figure this is something to do with first-time loading&running the explosion effect, that is causing the issue - but i suspect that lowering that Effects value may help (SDK won't easily let me set settings so i not tried yet).

just realised you're playing on a laptop - nothing against lappies per-se but they will always be suboptimal for gaming. too many compromises to make (mobile CPU and GPU, for instance) it still should be playable on lower settings however.

Well now that i think about it more ,it’s not only sometimes, it’s many times. I talked with someone about it and he told me it could have to do with Vram. Any comments on that?

VRam - absolutely! particularly in a lappy - the gpu will probably share the system ram, which is highly sub-optimal.

i'm guessing you would need at least 2GB dedicated Vram.

internet lag won't cause screen freezes

I get freeze and teleport :)

Or everyone else teleports

Or free movement while nothing updates except chat

Or blue screen

but a significant part of my internet runs through a puddle.

It's strange, especially stuff like blue screen, probably more serious than internet lag. I hope you at least use UPS, if yes, then some of hardware is probably faulty

these used to be caused by packet loss or loss of connection to server, in other games i've played.

this was always a 'server down' thing (disconnected) - but your chat is updating ... ?!

chat could just be delayed data getting to me

the puddle is a reliable part of my connection. if it dries up the connection is worse ;)

it was created by British Telecom in 1966. They promise to update this year, and last year, and the one before that.

oh and I live 5 mins from the centre of Bristol, the 7th largest city in the UK. But I am "Rural"...

Chat probably delivered by TCP while most of the rest (e.g. object position) by UDP
It's all kinda offtopic though
Teleportation or float moving during lost connection isn't exactly "lag when i see people"
