Get schooled on FTs

Recommended Posts

Hey

It seems that a big part of squad leaders don't even know how to

use fireteams at its full potential. That brought me here to try to educate u future SLs to not screw up. The average SL thinks is too complicated and unecessary  or maybe he only uses FTls to mark enemies which isn't bad but that's just an small part of FTL. Here's why:

Fts is the smallest independent unit a team has.

A normal inf squad(9 dudes) would have 2 teams: alpha and bravo, 1 being lead by squad lead himself  or can also asigned by someone to take alpha team and bravo by abothet FTL . This is were the true magic comes, what separates "ww1 banzai rush and push however u want tactics" and a tactical squad that uses fire and manuever tactics and uses teams to reinforce specific areas of a defense.Bravo pins down enemies and alpha team goes around the flank and ****s them up from the rear. This requires members to listen and not chase an enemy when he sees one. For examples u can check karmakut's channel in youtube ,he is such a good example how to use this  new awesome system or watch some squad tactics from the army to get a notion of how u gotta lead. All the tactics work in public matches btw, just need some guys that aren't below 80 iq and it will work just fine

Fireteams work if the squad are able to work together as cohesive squad, though finding a full squad that is able to work is a bit like a unicorn hunt. The present you find in public game you have FT being used by people as a ranging tool, which is a shame. They can work but don't as a general rule, clan games are really your only hope.

Not everyone in squad shares the same idea for tactics unfortunatley.

That's real nice and all, but unfortunately we don't live in an ideal world where all of that just plays out.

Fact is majority of people playing squad hate taking responsibility for pretty much anything. That much is clear just be looking at how long it takes for squads to be made at the start of a round on a lot of servers. So you're already herding cats, now you're expecting people to assign 2 of said cats as having responsibility for the rest of the cats. Not gonna happen.

People aren't making use of FT's "full potential" because the community doesn't allow for it. If that's what you're looking for, either play in organized clans or arma milsim, cus you aint getting it out of squad pub matches.

Karmakut, the god among men.....

He's an okay standard of SL. He gets allot of attention for jazzy videos, but his tactical play isnt anything to write home about.

In answer to the OP's question, I agree with you - it's a shame they just get used for ranging.

I always run SL in game now, I usually role Alpha and Delta (sadly we can't be Charlie and Delta and follow British Army doctrine and we're forced to use yank fireteams, but thats a minor moan) fireteams, Alpha 4  man and Delta 5 man.

This only works if you have a "second in command" type player who can actually control a small team, without that you're up shit creek with apple maps.

Aside from vehicle squads, I don't see the point in having more than two fireteams. It's not effective to control at all.
