Ingame ping up to 3x higher than actual ping?

Recommended Posts

Ingame on european servers I sometimes have 130 ping. But when running tracert with the server IP in cmd.exe, it reveals that my true ping only is 34... why is ingame score chart then showing 130 ms instead of 34ms ?

you are comparing apples and oranges.

  • ping measures the time from the client to server and back again. also known as round trip time (rtt).

  • latency is shown on the scoreboard in Squad.
it is rtt + server side processing delay. the more the server needs to calculate (e.g. more players), the bigger the processing delay.

So the processing delay can be reduced if the server runs on a CPU with lets say 16 cores? (If squad server.exe supports that)

The confusing part of this explanation is I would expect everyone on the server to experience the same server side processing delay, therefore everyone's  latency - rtt should rise and fall together?  But this is not what happens, some rise and fall others stay steady and low even when server performance becomes bad.  This is what makes people think they alone are having problems.

i have the same issue. very different to others in server. I maintain 30-40 ping to other uk servers.

Stability of ping is important, more important than anything else in online gaming.
