Question - Will Squad support Vulkan API ?

Question - Will Squad support Vulkan API ?

Vulkan is the latest project by the khronos team which handles OpenGL

glnext-logo.png

Vulkan API is OpenGL5 + Mantle - https://www.khronos.org/vulkan

OpenGL being the SAME as DirectX12

Why use Vulkan API instead of DirectX12

It will allow people with:-
Vista , 7 , 8 , 8.1 , 10 , Linux , MacOSX to support DirectX12 graphics without needing to bother with Windows 10

Apparently Unity, Epic (Unreal Engine), Valve (Source 2), and the Frostbite engines have all pledged to support

and are involved with the creation of the spec with Khronos.

Pretty sure Star Citizen will support it

Squad , please support this API !                                             (Along with Track IR !!!!!! :-))

Never knew the difference between Windows 8 and 10, and I always thought GPU was based off one's CPU.

And being a Windows 10 and Vista user, I support ;)  +1

I could waste hours of typing or people could google research

Basically opengl lets you use the same DirectX level (9c/10/11/12) VIDEO CARD (ATI-AMD / Nvidia) on Windows on a larger range + Linux + MacOSX

but DirectX latest if often only ONE OS only , this way it FORCES people to migrate to the NEXT OS that microsoft wants to push , not because the latest is

the best, but by buying a new Windows every 4-6 years it keeps microsoft paid

Vulkan 1.0 released today!

From Squad development perspective, what is the impact of migrating to vulkan? Been too long away from game development so I wonder if UDK shall shield the devs from the innards of the API or is it up to the game developers to reap the benefits by going down to the metal themselves?

Anyway, I hope it wont take too long for us gamers to start seeing the improvements vulkan and dx12 are promising even with current or recent hardware. \o/
