Weapons of the BAF?

Recommended Posts

So with the news that the British armed forces are nearly complete, I can't help but wonder what weapons they'll be using. Obviously the standard rifle will be the SA80, but for the auto rifleman, would they have the L86 LSW (extended SA80 with bipod and more rails) or would they have an FN Minimi?

I think it would be cool if there was a choice for both, knowing that there will be two available AR kits in v10, one in riflemen and one in specialist, maybe the British will have the selection of the LSW for the rifleman AR and the minimi for the specialist.

Aside from that what kind of AT do the brits use? I'm pretty sure they use the M3 MAAWS to some extent, but that's not really on par with the current in game AT systems. Maybe the ILAW?

I haven't seen an LSW be used in a very long time, we have very few in the armoury I personally wouldn't see the point in the LSW although I know they are already working on it. The LMG Gunners would have the LMG and so forth.

As for the AT, we use the ILAW, LASM, Javelin and the old Milan.

I imagine that the end goal is to have all or most of the latest armaments that are utilised in a modern infantry platoon/company.

L131A1 - Glock 17

L117A1 - SIG P226

L85A2 - SA80 w/ UGL (L123A1)

L129A1 - LMT Sharpshooter

L128A1 - Benelli M4 combat shotgun

L110A3 - FN Minimi

L7A2 - GPMG

L109A1 - Hand grenade

As for mortars, HMG's and grenade machine guns they might use assets that are already in game as they're basically interchangeable with US weaponry. I'm pretty sure there won't be any sniper rifles added though.

It would more than likely (definitely) be the FN Minimi. The L86 was/is essentially a marksman rifle, although labelled as an LSW. It couldn't replace the role of a machine gun within a section.

As far as the dual specialist vs rifleman class you suggested, I think a better alternative would be choosing between the L129 or the L86 as they correlate more to what your are suggesting.

The main ones you might see in game are Javelin's, AT4's and LASM's. Others are used but I doubt you will see them in game. Most are interchangeable with what is already in game.

A cool thing we might see is the variation of accessories for L85A2's in regards to optics, hand guards and foregrips. As there is a few degrees of variation they could play with to mix things up. And although technically it isn't correct you could label the UOR upgrades to the A2's A2.5's.

Also, if you wanted to get really crazy it's entirely possible we could see the indistinct "A3" at some point in the future. Who knows.

If we want to be completely correct in terms of the army, the standard rifle for infanteers is the L85, along with the platoon weapon which currently stands with the LMG, however that changed when they decided to replace the LMG with the sharpshooter rifle the L12. The L12 offers more accurate fire at targets rather than a flurry of rounds in a general area that the LMG offers.

As I stated before, the LSW was the marksman rifle but hasn't been used in a while and you aren't even trained on it anymore. They sit in the armouries collecting dust.

The infantry is vehemently against this and is fighting against the review. We'll see what happens.

It's been happening since 2015/2016. Everyone I know including me is for the change, I agree with controlled fire on a target rather than an area.

With the change in the definition of suppression I see where they are coming from. But sometimes you just need to suppress everything.

Last I heard is that they put it on hold. Thats all I know.

Well, I know that where I am, there isn't a transition taking place. We still have ample amount of LMG's and few Sharpshooter Rifles. It's a rather costly process to fade out the LMG and switch to a more sophisticated Rifle.

The L129 is after my time, but no one I have spoken to is keen to lose the LMG at the platoon level. It seems crazy to me that it is even suggested but hey, our armed forces have been doing some crazy things of late....:S

It's part of the new army 2020 I think, in all fairness, we should just bin off the LMG and L12 and smash a Gympie at platoon level. Ain't nobody going to pop up with that thing chugging rounds.
