[Solved] Squad is crashing on server join and in menu DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

Recommended Posts

So ever since 9.10 I've been unable to play the game.

The game keeps crashing and showing the bottom crash report window:

It also seems to crash my Nvidia driver along with it (385.41).

I have tried the following:

- verified game file integrity

- cleared cache

- tried that "wait 30s before joining" workaround

I know it's not my system as it works flawlessly in everything else, so I'm absolutely certain that it has something to do with Squad.

Help? :)

I had this, after all the usual tests and checks I disabled the skins in game settings and all is well again.

hmm, sounds buggy.

I did update and clean install my NVIDIA drivers as well (to the latest for my 1080ti). Aside from that i'm out of idea's i'm afraid.

If it was me I would wipe Squad and do a fresh install.

Hi @MrOcto,
if you don't mind, I'd like to take a look at your log file.
In order to get the latest log file including the crash:
  1. delete all files and folders in the Logs-folder (C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Squad\Saved\Logs)
  2. reproduce the crash
  3. upload the latest created log file to eg. http://www.tinyupload.com/
  4. share link here

also, I agree with Sho. - I'd suggest you do a clean install of Squad:

  1. manually delete %localappdata%\Squad
    https://offworldindustries.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002768887-How-to-manually-clear-your-user-settings-cache
  2. uninstall Squad via Steam
  3. manually delete remaining folders in Squad installation directory
    default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Squad
  4. install Squad via Steam
  5. reboot PC
report back your findings.

I'll wait with the clean install for now, if all else fails, I'll do it.

Is your GPU overclocked? (even slightly, or by factory)

[2017.09.19-12.13.12:069][867]LogD3D11RHI: Timed out while waiting for GPU to catch up. (0.5 s)
[2017.09.19-12.13.13:116][868]LogD3D11RHI:Error: Result failed
 at d:\g\pipelines\combined-release\S\UnrealEngine\Engine\Source\Runtime\Windows\D3D11RHI\Private\D3D11Query.cpp:134
 with error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

I'd say you have in issue with either NVIDIA driver or directX.

re directX:

Let's try this first:
In order to repair / reinstall directxX, browse to the Squad Local Install folder

default folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Squad\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010

then run the DXSETUP.exe as an administrator.

Did the DX thing, didn't help.

Yes my GPU is slightly overclocked, but I've had no issues with the OC prior to 9.10. I also have no stability issues in any of the other games, just Squad and only after 9.10.

I understand.

I'd say you revert the OC to default values. Then test Squad.

If Squad still crashes, try to underclock. - Test again if it crashes.

btw, did you recently upgrade your graphics card (to gtx 1080)?

I think I fixed it.

I suspect it was a lingering Windows update that messed with the GPU driver for some reason.

Just finished playing a full round without any issues, which was impossible before as it crashed within 2-3 min.
