That m240B better deal some significant damage!

Well the devs heard many of our cries and will be adding the m240b and also the pkm! They mentioned that these weapons will have an advantage because they will have increased suppression. That is amazing. However shouldn't they also have significantly increased damage? Right now it takes two chest shots to kill someone with  a rifle. Shouldn't the m240 and pkm drop someone in a single chest shot? I hope these weapons will be feared.

i agree to but i hope that they slow players movements down and make firing without a bipod very difficult

I agree.. I believe project reality handled it well. However we should be able to fire it while standing but just with terrible accuracy.

i also think the m249 should be given more idle sway when shooting singles because it handles similar to the m4.

I dont believe that it will do single chest shots, i mean, just look at the akm (i know its 7.62x39), g3, m110...

Yeah that's my only issue with the game really.. some of these high powered rounds should have more lethality. I've survived THREE SVD shots. :(

This is also due to server lag etc..., i witnessed an guy surviving a full burst (ca 5 shots) from a BTR (14.5mm). If i am not mistaken the svd and the m110 do around 90 dmg, so its a safe two-shot kill. You can do one shots quite often when the enemy is not at full health.

Kind of blows my mind that people would ever think weapons kill fast enough in this game. 7.62×51 does like 85-89 damage to center mass right now. Full health targets bleed out in seconds, non full health targets die in 1 ****ing laser accurate bullet.

I doubt balance will be an issue - the devs have so many tools for buffing and nerfing, especially since it's not just a weapon, it's a class. So maybe GPMG players don't have grenades or pistols and are totally unable to CQB. Maybe they are slower or stamina depletes faster. Maybe they only have 2 mags so they have to stick closer to supplies...

 

That would all be fine since those are realistic limitations and would ensure that the class is used as it is intended: prone, bipod-deployed fire support from a distance.

 

....with a big ass, highly lethal gun.

 

I would prefer they use the PR system for specialty/team-limited kits though like MG/sniper/HAT, or another method that would allow small teams.

I agree it should Be big, slow, and cumbersome like in PR. I believe the m240 would drop you in a single shot too and could injure you from splash damage so it was a beast that made up for its limitations. Hopefully the gpmgs will be the same in squad. 

 

We will see the m240, pkm and a dev HINTED at possibly the m60! Wow, I could  totally foresee the militia with the m60!

PKM with AP ammo can actually pen lighter vehicles. And that includes the side armor of BTRs at short-medium ranges. Just a thought...

That system is already in place for the HAT kit so I don't see why it wouldn't be used on other specialist kits.

 

However, it could be a good faction balancing feature. For example, limit the M240 for the US with something like 1 per 15 players on the faction, but allow Russia to have a PKM in every squad replacing the scoped RPK. This reflects the real world deployment of these weapons by their respective military's but more importantly lets the factions play a little more differently.

Really? I've seen the opposite with devs saying they won't add the M60.

M240B 7,62x51 - 2800ft/s 
SVD 7,62x54 - 2723ft/s

240 has higher impact, more damge ??

Neither.

 

It worked fine in PR because it was terrible for hip-fire and didn't have an undeployed mode which meant it'd have really high deviation. Useless on the move, great for defending.

M60 for militia would be cool although PKM makes more sense. They should add PKP for Ivan too.

 

and I would really like a "kicking up dust" effect but I'll keep dreaming....

Do you agree that the m60 is still a decent gpmg? And better than pkm?
