Road Blocking

Digging up wrecks is on our task list.

Is the shovel always going to be the only destructible tool in Squad? Surely we could use explosives to remove the wreck as well, right?

As an early suggestion, wrecks should keep their fire for some small amount of minutes and when the fire goes away is when they are available to be dug up.  That would keep some depth in for the tactic of blocking but make it not some impenetrable wall that permanently alters the map.  Instead it stays a tactic with a cost if you choose to use your own vehicles.

Another issue that came up is people setting up sandbags to do the same thing on the bridge.

What's wrong with that? Why wouldn't you want to have the option to either block or fortify a bridge? They are always destructible as well.

Squad is all about realism. If a 2 1/2 ton truck burns up on a bridge you're going to need a heavy duty recovery vehicle to move it and not a single shovel. Blockades and logistics disruptions are valid tactics in Squad and if you don't like it then protect your assets accordingly.

I see where your coming from, but the Dev's have repeatedly reminded us that gameplay is also balanced with realism.

Here's the official line
Squad is an online, team-based military experience where high levels of teamwork and communication are crucial to success.

As we go through development iterations of course we can expect different content to evolve, for now we need shovels to remove wrecks. That doesn't mean that the final solution for release or indeed the modded game.

I think a big part of this problem is that Al Basrah was (sort of) never designed to be played in AAS. It is a relatively big city map wherein the conventional faction fights assymetrically against an unconventional faction which has to hide in building and use subterfuge to prevail. But that simply doesn't work too well in AAS, specially when there isn't that big of a technological gap between factions. When the Insurgency gamemode is added to Squad, road blocking as a whole becomes far less effective due to the decentralized nature of the Insurgency gamemode. Just look at Basrah in PR: It doesn't even have an AAS layer. It's not that the tactic as a whole is going to be entirely invalidated, it's just that it should become less OP than it currently is.
