"Please always reset your appdata in the game settings on every new build!"

Do I actually need to do this or is it just a precaution?  I've never actually had any issues with squad and I've never reset my cache so I'm just wondering what it actually does. I understand it'll reset my settings, but is it truthfully necessary or only if I stumble into problems?

it's recommended always, but only necessary if you have problems.

So whats the benefit to doing it if I'm not having problems?

How do I save my controls/graphics before resetting the cache?

You can't, it's pretty much what it does to clear up all your personal settings and puts it into factory standard. Take a screenshot or couple if you feel you've hit a sweet spot and won't remember it after a reset.

Doing it after each patch imo is just precautionary as it does solve a lot of issues for a lot of people, saves the support people 600 cases of problems that are solved by pressing that one button I'm sure. I only do it if I have issues, I'd recommend it if you've had Squad installed for several months and haven't cleared it once

As written above by others you can't. However, once you have done it a couple of times re-doing your controls doesn't take very long and you can confidently know that your game is working as intended.

It would be great of OWI to separate the control settings from all the other settings so we didn't have to re-do them.

I always do it. It has solved severe, inexplicable performance issues, that appeared after an update, twice for me.

And as someone said above: after a while it doesn't take long to reset your settings

you can do it manually if you find the appdata folder

or in the game settings: "remove cached user data"

You can save your controls by backing up Input.ini from appdata
Shouldn't really screw up anything afaik, unless new controls are added then you have to reset that too.
