video card at max power on main menu

Recommended Posts

My specs are AMD FX-4100 (yes I know it's not enough) and GTX 960 2GB. When Squad loads up, everything's fine until I reach the main menu, where unless I turn on my 3 additional case fans, the videocard runs up to 70* and the load is basically full. This drops down to 50* once I'm in a server but it just seems strange that it would be at full load on a main menu.

Odd. My GPU uses a boosted clock I put on and goes up to it as soon as I start up the game, but the actual GPU usage doesn't go up until I load a map.

I don't have an explanation for this. Squad has a hard coded frame rate limit of 240 and since there is not much to render in main menu all systems should hit that easily without heavy load. You can turn on vsync to see if you notice any difference.

Set your own fps limit and stop Squad hammering your gpu in the menu with this.

\steamapps\common\Squad\Squad\Config\DefaultEngine.ini

in
[SystemSettings]

add
t.maxFPS=60

or whatever value you like. Not much point in going above your monitors max refresh rate.

It's an oldie but a good one. It was originally from a dev but I can't remember who it was so long ago.

That was me. But it probably won't do the trick for you since we are already capping frames in main menu now. You seem to have a different issue.
