Can we get some thin yellow "caution tape" connecting the steel poles?

This would help with infantry getting stuck inside of Bunkers ect. and is just helpful in general, you could see if you ****ed up a wall before your squad spent 30 seconds digging it.

It's pretty difficult to tell what you're trying to build in the current state:

I suppose the squad leader who placed it knows where he placed what and why. Grunts don't really need to know what they're building prior to the construction. Just keep on shoveling.

On the other hand, why the hell not.

lol when the SL selects something he knows what it is. Dont need to complicate that, especially after 20 sec of digging you will see what it is. Or you could ask on local or squad comms. Just sayin'

I placed the thing in the picture and I could barely tell what it was. Grunts do however need to know where it's place because you get stuck in it if it looks complicated.

But wouldn't it just be nice to have the yellow tape connecting them in general?

If digging trenches and foxholes are going to be in-game, there could be small logs instead of metal rods. Usually the problem with confusing poles is in superFOBs, but i don't see it would do any harm to add some sort of wire/tape between poles to clarify things.
