Suddenly experiencing Bad FPS? Try this!

Recommended Posts

I had noticed a sudden fps drop with the v7 patch and put it down to maybe the patch (since a lot of other people were saying their fps took a hit). But yesterday i asked my friends what fps they were getting (Lot of them didnt know that Statfps command showed FPS) they answered 50-90fps within the range of my 5 friends. I was getting 20 max and my system was better than some of theirs. - This was on the logar valley INS Night.

I restarted PC, updated my GPU driver (co-incidence there wwas an update on that day) and lowered and upped my settings but nothing helped.

Something that is at the bottom of almost every big change is to delete your configs. To be honest i ignored it thinking ah, that wont have any effect its just a 'just incase' type scenario. But it has massively increased my FPS.

What you do:

1) Windows key + R

2) Type %Appdata%

3) Press back arrow and go to Local

4)Find Squad folder, open it and Delete the WindowsNoEditor Folder

5) Relaunch Game

My Fps went from 15-20 to 60-70fps.

Try it and let me know!

(Note i havent done this since pre-testing so that may be a reason why)

Cant promise anything - but trying to pass on what worked for me for others who overlooked it

did this already some time ago...

this actually, or better to say magically made all errors and most bugs go away!

also the FPS improved significantly. the only downside is, you'll have to reconfigure everything,

like controls, graphic settings etc. not a big deal though...

since V7.3 my PFS dropped again, from 55-60 to 15-20, which is absolutely unplayable for me,

need to try this out again...

EDIT:

definitively works, FPS seem a bit more playable again being >30, not quite there yet...

@Z-trooper, @IrOnTaXi

if you could look into this maybe?

Did this. Made a noticeable difference in FPS - good tip. Few minutes of hassle to reconfigure settings, but worth it.

Didn't fix fatal errors, but definitely improved FPS.

You believe that the developers put into operation one day game to a level where you'll be able to play with my hardware cpu and gpu i3 4370 r9 270x? :(

I think I read this for about 10-15 times in the last month...

Yeah, it helps some people. But do you actually need to clone topics?

YOU complaining about unnecessary postings (this isn't, btw.) is the most ironic thing I have read on this board.

I wouldn't call it complaining. Just noticed and commented on it.

I would be interested in the contents of that folder!!   :(

I have a feeling its the settings more than the anything.. although.. possibly LOG files.. We will look into it next few weeks.. just need some people to give us FPS output with those files there and not there.

ie. keep the files.. and switch back and forth and show me screen caps of the gains.

CHeers gents.

I've deleted the entire squad directory in the appdata/local several times before, this was the first time I've only deleted the logs directory.

Actually, the loss of the FPS in main menu was likely caused by another issue on my pc, unrelated to deleting the logs.

Yeah probably shoulda been more scientific about it, sorry. But I was sceptical it would do anything. Hasn't affected stability at all, I still ge the same crash patterns. But it has made the game significantly more playable. Will try what you say if I notice things bogging down again in the future.

Cheers,

After I open "Squad" folder can't see any folder named "WindowsNoEditor"... there's one named "Save" but nothing else...

Should I delete the "Logs" folder?

My issue is a lot of the time if its not at the top of the list people dont see it.

Who would know to search for Deleting userconfig? I wouldn't. Also it was a fix i found and rushed to the forums to tell people about it :P

I have to say that changing the graphic settings does not change my FPS (gtx 970). I am always around 40-50. W/o crawling through the logs, I have to say it seems to me that this might be bottle-necked by the server.

On some servers which are filled at 72 players, I have the 40-50 fps and on other servers I have them in the lower player count. Though as soon as the slots are maxed the fps drops to around 30ish and i get occasionally some ping hick ups around 100-120 with some nasty rubberband here and there. Not severe, but noticeable.

Now I don't blame my setup, nor my broadband (1000/500) for that. Second, Before v7 my fps rarely dropped below 60 with the same settings.

Regarding the tip: Didn't do any change for me.

@IrOnTaXi,

15 to 25 fps with old files. 30 to 45 fps after deleting "windowsnoeditor" files. Let me know how I can get these files to you. Currently testing to see if this affects the "fatal error" issue or not. This is the 1st time I have deleted those files since early alpha 5.

Which CPU do you have?Intel or AMD?

@Dr.quick,

I am running a i3 cpu / 760ti. So I am on the low end of the hardware scale and definitely cpu bound as far as this game goes. I switched back and forth between old files and new (backed up folder before deleting) and the results are fairly consistent. Low 20s with old files, and mid 30 to high 40 with new files. Which makes the game playable for me. My theory is (based upon what iron taxi stated about log files) that there is something in the pre 7 files that is causing the amount of procedural calls to double when that file is used with v7. The result being that if you have a mid to low range cpu, you see the frame drop because there is not enough horsepower to hide it from the end user. However if your cpu is roboust enough, changing the files has no effect because that cpu is powerful enough to handle the extra load. Mind you, this is just a theory as to why this works for some and not others.
