Best processor for squad

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I've had squad from when it first went on steam and have been thinking about my rig.

Specs:

GeForce GTX 970

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz

16 GB of ram

monitor at 2560 x 1440

Ive had the rig for a while and have slowly upgraded it and wanted to get a new CPU. So which one is best on the market I've done some research but cant come to a conclusion on what to get. Thanks! (Price range lets keep it 200-500 USD)

The new Skylake CPU's from Intel are beasts, I'm running a i5 6600k, the overclock is sweet(@4.4Ghz). Only issue with Skylake and most modern CPU's is,  need a compatible motherboard, which are 1151 sockets. Even slightly older but still powerful CPUs, such as i5 4690k and i7 4790k, require 1151 sockets.

Decent modern CPUs
-i5 4690 / 4690k
-i5 4790 / 4790k
-i5 6600 / 6600k
-i7 6700 / 6700k

Based on your i7-3770, your MOBO has 1155 socket. If you're after  a modern powerful CPU, you will have to upgrade your MOBO first. Would also have to take into consideration if you want an unlocked version of a CPU, and take into consideration of after market fans if using an unlocked CPU, to keep the CPU cool.

Decent 1155 socket CPUs are(If you're not planning on upgrading MOBO)
- i5 3570k(Unless you're not overclocking, i7 3770 > i5 3570k with out the 3570k being overclocked)
- i7 3770k (Unlocked, overclockable 3770 version)

Like @Dubssaid, if you buy a new CPU, check the i5 6600(k) or i7 6700(k).

I also play on 2560x1440 with a i7 6700k @ 4,4 GHZ, 32GB Ram and a AMD R9 390 graphic card.

Next year i´ll have a look at the new AMD Vega graphic card, because i want to have more FPS than actually 40-70.

Asus Pro Gaming Z170 is a good and cheap mainboard for that new socket. After the latest Bios updates, i can recommend you this piece of hardware.

Buy a 7700K with a new motherboard if you want to spend some money or buy and overclock a 3770K to 4.6GHz.
