Any good war/combat films worth watching

Recommended Posts

I mean outside of the usual hollywood films that everyone's probably seen.

The Thin Red Line? Or do you consider that as Hollywood movie that everyone probably seen?

Not a movie but a documentary (mini series).

Inside combat rescue. It's about USAF PJ's worth watching specially if you love radio comms and medicine.

Armadillo is a good documentary also although someone already mentioned it.

Most of the ones mentioned already, but here are a couple of my all time faves from the POW perspective....

STALAG17 (what the TV series Hogan's Heroes was based upon)

The Great Escape

I mean it genuinely, 100%.

I agree. Very well made.

And speaking of Mr Pitt; World War Z

is a great action movie.

Personal favorite warmovies:

We were soldiers

Heartbreak ridge

Generation kill (series)

Hurt locker

Platoon

American sniper

Blackhawk down

Band of brothers (series)

Pacific (series)

Flags of our fathers

Letters from Iwo Jima

Chuck Norris

Edit: Lone survivor (ofc, very well made)

Stick with the documentaries. Gets you close, if not right up next to it without actually experiencing it if you haven't already and can relate to it. Brings back memories from over there, even more when I recognize some of the FOBs and routes or some of the guys I served with or under.

Couple of my favorites:

The Hornet's Nest

Korengal

To Hell and Back Again

Restrepo

Where Soldiers Come From

Generation Kill

I stay clear of The Hurt Locker...that movie...just ask anyone in the army why it's terrible lol

generation kill, its an HBO mini series. entertaining.

And probably the most accurate depiction of any military operation or unit ever. FACT.

Ears Open Eyeballs Click - Good documentary on USMC boot camp. Completely unfiltered and a more realistic view of what these guys really go through compared to what's shown on PBS or the History Channel.

Operation Homecoming Writing the Wartime Experience - Very well done documentary

Patton - Old film, but still very good, doesn't get enough recognition.
