So this is more a discussion than a question but I was wondering about the implementation of a convoy game mode. Basically it would go like this: Convoy of a conventional faction (i.e. US military, Russia) 4 or 5 turreted vehicles, 4 logistic trucks, 3 troop transport trucks and maybe a apc or light transport helicopters such as a blackhawk. The opposing forces be militia or insurgents armed with of course basic soviet weaponry one or two dskhms pkm's and Rpg's, maybe there can be one kit where they are equipped with a anti material rifle. Blufor would basically have to get from main base to a fire base on the other side of the map. What would make the mode even more interesting is that one or two squads have to hold off insurgents trying to attack the fire base while waiting for the convoy. The key objective  could be to prevent most of the logistics trucks being destroyed, get to the fire base to help defend it or even make a V.I.P who is in a black humvee with one of those miniguns on top. Having this game mode would be super tactical but also fast paced and exhilirating. Imagine being an insurgent with a rpg slowly waiting on the convoy with a smile across your face or as a .50cal gunner tensly scanning the surroundings looking for contacts. The main thing that would have to be changed would be to make it so on that certain game mode you have the ability to talk to other squads when you're not a squad leader since at least for the convoy communication would be imperative. The only thing that would make the game mode look kind of ugly would be that there will sadly be no entering and exiting vehicle animations. Let me know what you think below.convoy.jpg

Im trying to think of ways this game mode can be exploited and not work out, but I can't seem to find any, sounds like a great idea.

Great idea, I wonder what other game modes would be fun. A quick thought, POW rescue, special target elimination. Major base attack and defence.

Would be fun a few times - but what would the replayability be like?  10 times?

 

A fun mission for clans or communities to run or organise events for but a game mode in the rotation I'm not convinced.

Well they could be played going different routes, say the commander gets to pick which route the convoy goes, the vehicles in the convoy could change at server discretion and like I said there can be variants of having a convoy mode such as supply to base defense or VIP extraction

Not necessarily. With the FOB System in place, in regards to AAS (and Im sure it can apply to this gamemode), I still have yet to play 2 games that have played out the same (with my current 130+ Hours in). That being given for the Insurgents, and for the Convoy being able to take whichever route they wish with Infantry supporting them, it could be interesting.

Depends on the rotation. If it's that type of mission map after map, then yeah I could see it getting old. But if it's only coming up once every 5+ maps, I doubt it would be an issue.

No its not. This game mod was suggested but not confirmed. Try find it...somewhere in mid of 2015 There were huge talk about game modes. Msot of theme are refused. Tell you why. 

Your convoy is already done. During AAS battle when you will have to build somewhere support position or stuff like that. Or place FOB you will have to bring supply. Many times in PR supply track go alone. Sometimes it arrive in target area sometimes not because it was ambushed. So its good to give them some support. But its about communication between Squad Leaders. 

Or Play INS mode in PR .... usually two convoys cross a map. If team is good they have really great convoys. Insurgency everytime try ambush those convoys. Because they are going to search where are cashes. Just wait for vehicles you will see your convoys in AAS in INS and once we will get CaC you will see them inside too. We really dont need special game mod for this. You will be surprise but with AAS and INS we have so many game mods thats its amazing. Everything is just about how players play. If people play game just like CoD (and they still play) game is simple and run&gun. If people cooperate more game is much more tactic and objectives has many sub-objectives. It depend at squad leaders how fun they will make it. They are storytellers.

This is a great idea until the first public squad leaders decide to build super FOBs on A1, instead of defending the Convoy.

Since this game mode requires even more communication and correct timings (between and inbetween the squad(s), i guess it would be horror to play that on public servers.

 

But it's still a cool idea.

Well the first thing I'd do on the OP version of convoy would be as Insurgents to take the whole team and go zerg the fire base before the convoy can get there, leaving the convoy completely alone. Wipe out the base, and as the convoy is taking the last turn and thinking "that was fucking boring and quite eas..." and looking down from the walls of the fire base is 4 RPGs and 26 AKs. Yep.

I think this would be a fun idea to implement, unless convoys become a natural and common occurrence in AAS then maybe not.

 

But I do like the earlier suggestion of a POW rescue mode.  In general, it would be nice to see more alternative game modes that aren't all about territory grabs.

If they wanted to add more modes I'd imagine a POW rescue and VIP modes would be in the easy end to implement. POW is essentially Insurgency-mode but insdead of caches you have an npc POW that had to be found, rescued and maybe carried into a vehicle for extraction. Imagine Counter Strike hostages, doesn't even require an AI or nothing. 

VIP could just be a special class that someone picked up and had to simply get from point A to point B, free hands on how to proceed and other team to stop it naturally. Could have some twists like the VIP-team having a decoy class who has the same distinguishable clothes as the VIP to allow for some sneaky plays. Also possibly some other side-objectives that would allow the game to go a bit longer if the VIP manages to get sniped in the first couple minutes of the round.

Maybe make it so insurgents can't attack the firebase for 20 minutes @SgtHerhi

We can come up with infinite types of game modes, but how many align with standard forces? POW/VIP are probably getting too close to special forces

once vehicles are in, convoys (multiple squads with vehicles working together) will and should sprout organically--assuming squads communicate. happens very often at the beginning of the round in PR. shouldnt be diff in Squad imo. i prefer it this way as opposed to an actual game mode.

 

(EXAMPLE; on SL channel during pre-game countdown)

sq 1 [inf]: hi sq 2, my sq is going to take 2 hmmvs to bravo 7 kp 3, but need escort. how copy?

sq 2 [ifv]: this sq2, yea were taking 2 bradleys and will go first to bravo 7, follow us.

sq 1 [inf]: awesome thanks. 

sq 3 [logx]: this is sq 3 logistics sq, were taking a loggy (lah-jee) truck and a hmmv, we'll follow in the rear.

sq 2 [ifv]: ok then, lets keep at lets keep about 25 to 50 meters between each vehicle

sq1 [inf]: ok, if someone hits an ied or takes an rpg and cant go on, what do we do--leave them or stay and fight?

sq 3 [logx]: if an apc gets disabled, we dismount and fight, any other vehicle goes down (hmmv or loggy) then we keep driving and gtfo of the kill zone

etc

As I have said in other threads...Im hoping for all Armored maps....like the ones in BF1942....vehicle only maps and modes....with infantry support and logistics of course, but main battles are tank on tank air to air and air to ground battles and ground to air....perhaps throw in sea to ground and sea to air too. But this is suggestion not confirmation. :)
