Bans not sticking?

Recommended Posts

Any one else having issues with this? I've now banned this guy 3 times from our servers (for repeated TKs - joins, TKs 5+ people immediately, then I ban him).

JorgeThe^Star^Citize  Steamid: 765611980140127855

First instance was 3pm PST yesterday, then twice in my session this afternoon. When I look at the ban list, I see all 3 entries there for his steamID.

***********

On a slightly different note, I also issued a 1 day ban on someone today. However when I'm looking at their ban in the ban list vs some of the other bans... I'm not seeing anything obvious that would indicate it's a 1 day ban vs the permanent bans the others are...

What is the command you are running? Also what does his ban vs the other bans? It should look like  765611980140127855 :123456 // tking

adminbanbyid X "0" TKing

This is what it looks like in the ban file. The 3rd one was the temp ban (adminbanbyid X "1d" Tking

Just an FYI, your steam ID for Jorge is off. His steamID is 76561198140127855 and he was globally banned awhile back for the same thing. His ban is now extended.

Thanks. Any idea why the same guy was coming back into the server multiple times after being banned?

According to Spectral's post above. You had the wrong steamID for Jorge. That could have been the issue.

It might have been off in the initial post - that was copied by hand for our ban records (and thanks for pointing that out - will correct that). However the SteamID from the ban file matches the one posted. I mean using "adminbanbyid X "0" TKing" banned him from the server - 3 times. Each one showing up in the ban file with the same SteamID. Even if somehow I have his SteamID wrong... how is it possible that I'm banning the same Steam ID multiple times - especially when they're all showing up in the ban file?

Interesting stuff!!

Keep up with the work :D

by the way how long will the ban be in this one account?¿

would be quite interested to know.

P.S Banning system definitely needs an overhaul.Even a child can find ways to overcome it.

If i was an admin i'd ban you for 999999 years. Still, not enough time for you to realise that TKing on purpose is unacceptable.

Change your listing to have only one with a timestamp of 0, so it would end up being:

76561198140127855:0 //TKing

This will now be permanent rather than dated like currently.

To see the current expiry date you can use http://www.unixtimestamp.com/index.php

So what you're saying, is that despite entering the ban as a permanent ban (adminbanbyid X "0" TKing), the platform is putting it in as a temp ban? I banned this user on 3/19/16 at roughly 3pm PST. I do not think that's correct, as the converter you used shows an "expiry date" of 3/19/16 9:56pm (UTC) - which when converted, means it's essentially a ban that will only last a few minutes.

When I look at the player I temp banned (adminbanbyid X "1d" TKing) on 3/20/16 ~2:30pm PST, that shows an "expiry date" of 3/20/16 9:38pm UCT - so again, roughly just a few minutes after I banned him. I really do not think these are the expiry dates, but the ban time/date. Perhaps we can get a dev in here to confirm. Because while I do not mind going into the ban files to change this, it's a pain in the butt, and I'm not sure if I'd need a restart for this to take effect. And I'd really question why OWI would implement a system like this. If douche bags are going to be douche bags, I should be able to perm ban them without having to manually go into the server to edit the ban file.

Edit. Never mind... just reread Spectre's post where it specifically says that it's the expiry date. Which then raises a bigger question. Why are permanent bans expiring after just a few minutes? Seems like a massive oversight. And honestly is an issue that they should be correcting asap, as it's one causing all sorts of headaches to the admins when assholes like Jorges can continuously jump right back into a server after an admin thinks they've banned him.

Another question. Can one edit the ban file on the fly? Or does it require a server restart to take effect?

If I remember correctly it reads it on round start along with on restart so not exactly on the fly. Might be wrong been a while since tested that.

Correct. Also you are NOT perm banning him. If you enter a ban time of "0" that is a perm ban and will mark it accordingly. Like you mentioned above you are using a time limit. I will double check to make sure the ban checking time is set for UTC.

Sorry for taking so long to reply - just got back from vacation. When I type in "adminban" in console, I get two prompted commands below. Both of which say that "0" is a perm ban. As this clearly isn't the case - what should we be putting in here if we want to permanently ban someone from the server?

AdminBan "<NameOrSteamId>" "<BanLenght>" <BanReason> (Bans a player from the server for a length of time. 0=Perm, 1d = 1 Day, 1M = 1 Month, etc) and

AdminBanById <PlayerId> "<BanLenght>" <BanReason> (Bans a player from the server for a length of time. 0=Perm, 1d = 1 Day, 1M = 1 Month, etc)

Edit. Guess I should have read the 5.1 notes first (there's a blurb in there about perm bans being fixed).
