JC Multiplayer Inventory system for UE4

Recommended Posts

This is cool inventory system made entirely on the UMG and Blueprints for UE 4.

It allows for weapon customization and other cool stuff and is currently on sale for $24.

JCInventory system is a modular inventory system that aims to be easy to install and customize while providing powerful features. Most notably its jigsaw like system and crafting system.

Perhaps things like this could help save some precious time for the team that can can then be spent on other features. Also, it is constantly being udated and improved and the dev is very open to feedback and probably even customization for Squad's needs.

PS: Multiplayer implementation video:

It shows how several players can be looking inside the same container and if one takes an item it is shown in the other players inventory screens in real time.

PS2: Now it also features weight and that weight affects walk speed, stamina etc.

PS3: This inventory system can also be expanded to show wounds on different parts of the body, their effects on the injured player etc so the medics when interacting with wounded allies can be shown an inventory like screen that shows their medical equipment and the wounds on the patient etc. So all they do is drag the bandage in their inventory to the wounded part to stop the bleeding for example.

Cheers

Why would they buy something on the marketplace? if they wanted something they'd do it by scratch.

I personally think that if there was a customisation/custom equipment then it shouldn't be able to be changed once you have spawned into a match. In my opinion it should be within the kit selection screen and you can't change it until you go back to the kit selection menu and change it again.

As stated in the fist post... the short answer is: TIME (The less time the coders spend on that the more time they have to do some other things that cannot be outsourced).

The long answer is: Oportunity Cost.

Oportunity Costs means that perhaps it is much more cost effective for the team members to spend their time elsewere than developing an already developed tool because the hours needed to develop it equal XX amount of money that is alot more than the 20$ for having it done outside.

To put it in simple terms: If the wheel is already invented... why would you re-invent it and specially if buying it will be more efficient in terms of cost vs man hours invested.

Also a thing to consider is that Squad wants to break the previous limits and bounderies imposed by the aging BF2 engine ie KIT SYSTEM.

I am not saying that a kit system is worst or better than an inventory system but considering the pros and cons I do believe an inventory system would be more beneficial for Squad becasue:

- It allows for more, better and easier customization.

- It is better for modding. (It is easier for modders just to add items than it is to make kits for everything)

- Once properly implemented the inventory system does not require any aditional coding when adding new factions, teams, items etc. You just create the item and set the inventory parameters to it (weight, description, role requierements, faction requirements etc)

- You can easily impose role limitations to items so a spicific role in your squad should not be able to use a particular weapon or item. (If you see the videos of the blueprint it is super easy to do so)

- You can add more resources that way like: * Fuel for resuplying, * Enemy intel found on bodies, * Intruments like nightvision googles, flashlights etc you name it.

- It allows you to implement weight, stamina an a healing system that is easy to understand because it is all on the same inventory screen instead of serveral and different sub-menus that you need to memorize or read a manual on how to get there etc.

Of course for the inventory system to be better that the kit system it needs to be robust and FAST! Nothing like the cluncky mess of inventory that arma has. Something more like Stalker would be awesome and that is exactly what this JC inventory system looks like.
