      Forum Rules   07/06/2016

Introduction   The Squad Team reserves the right to edit, update, add and remove rules at any time. Applicable rules extend to the PM system. Your PMs are private, but the Squad Team may be informed about unacceptable PM content by the receiving party.   Section I: Posting Rules   §1 Show Respect This community can only work if we all respect each other. To that end, it is imperative that any time you engage with another user, either directly or indirectly, you show them respect with the content of your post. In particular refrain from flaming, insulting, abusing, taunting, racism, and other similar types of actions towards other forum users.   §2 Attitude & Behavior Poor attitude and behavior are the most common ways a negative / unsafe environment is created and perpetuated. As such that kind of behavior will not be allowed on these forums. Please be mindful of this rule when posting personal positions and opinions regarding topics which could be considered contentious in nature. As a rule of thumb, keep your posts civil in nature, and refrain from making posts that are likely to incite arguments and create a negative environment. As a privately hosted web forum we reserve the right to maintain an environment that we are happy the majority of our players are comfortable with.   §3 Swearing While we will not strictly moderate every little swear that occurs, please try to avoid excessive bad language. The moderation reserves the right to remove rants and unsuitable content at any time.   §4 Illegal Topics
Prohibited topics include, but are not limited to: Piracy, drugs (including cannabis), pornography, religion, racism, sexism, homo/trans -phobic content, videos and images showing violent death or serious injury, ‘spam threads’, hacking & griefing (endorsement thereof), religion, politics,  etc. Prohibition may be suspended for some threads if they are found to be suitable by the Moderation (such as scientific debate).
If there is doubt, the Moderation Team can decide whether a topic is considered illegal.   §5 Attitude towards Squad and the Development Team
As per §1 and §2, keep in mind to be respectful and reasonable, not only towards all users of the forum, but also towards the Squad Team and towards any ideas and content and the game itself. Criticism is welcome, but if it is not constructive and/or if it is offensive, the Moderation may need to step in. Please refrain from posting if you are upset, angry or drunk, or you may be punished for things you wouldn’t have otherwise written, which is not in anyone's interest.   §6 Language & Legibility
Please post only in English. Non-English content (including non-legible content) may be removed. If you see someone posting in another language because s/he apparently does not speak English, please report their post - if you can, you may reply in their language to explain their question, but please do translate their and your message so it can be reviewed by the Moderation. ‘Hiding’ insults in non-English posts will be punished harshly. Posts written largely in ‘leetspeak’ or full of spelling / grammatical errors may be treated like non-English content. This rule does not extend to PMs.   §7 Forum structure & Search
Please ensure when posting a new thread, that the thread is located inside the correct forum section. Check all forum section titles to judge where your thread should belong. Threads created in the wrong forum section will be moved or deleted.
Before posting a new thread, please make use of the forum search to find older threads about the same topic. In doubt, it is recommended to rather post in an existing thread, unless that thread is years out of date. However, do not bump old threads without adding a new question / answer / insight that wasn’t in that thread before - use common sense.   §8 Thread Titles
Please name your thread appropriately; the subject title should sum up / explain the content in the thread. If you fail to name your thread properly (such as ‘Hey!’ or ‘Check this out!’ or ‘Help!’), we will either rename or lock the topic. Repeated offense may lead to infractions. The practice of using CAPITALS only in your thread title is not allowed and will be edited or the thread will simply be deleted. Strange or abnormal Unicode characters should be excluded from thread titles for the sake of being distracting and unnecessary.
      §9 Thread Capitalization
Please ensure that your post is not in all CAPITALS, as this is not allowed. Any threads posted in all caps will subsequently be removed from the forum. Repeated offenses may lead to infractions against your account. This practice is not approved or accepted here.
        §10 Images in posts
When posting images, mind the following restrictions:
.gifs will be allowed and may be removed by Staff if deemed necessary.
Maximum size for images is 1280x1024.
Do not include more than ~1 large image per paragraph of text, unless in image collection / announcement threads. Link to further images.
Consider posting thumbnails. You may post a few more images per post if they are reasonably small, the details are for the Moderation to judge.   §11 The use of BBCode
It is allowed to use the BBCode in your posts. Over usage is not allowed. You may use the Bold in a reasonable manner but not for the whole text body. You may use the size feature but in a limited reasonable manner. You may not use any of the additional fonts at all. Color may be used to high light a point but again, not for the whole text body. Moderators will be watching for misuse and will edit when required without giving notice. Continued disregard for this rule will result in Moderator action in the form of warnings.   §12 Complaints of Server/Admin Abuse Reports of server/admin abuse will not be posted publicly. All reports concerning this type of behavior should be place in the appropriate sub-forum. http://forums.joinsquad.com/forum/241-report-server-admin-abuse/ All posts made outside of this area will be be removed.   Section II: Reporting & Moderation   §1 Reporting Posts
There is a Post Report system in place. If you notice a post that violates forum rules, simply use the exclamation mark icon below the users avatar image to send a report to the Moderation. We will then review this post. Your report will not be made public and cannot be linked to your person by anyone outside of the Squad Team. You will not be punished for using the Report system even if the report was false, unless you repeatedly abuse the system to spam it.
Do not ‘report’ posts by replying directly in public to them. In case of spambots, this prompts them to respond in turn, spamming the forum further. This also fuels flame wars and arguments.   §2 Reporting Moderators
Moderators are subject to the same forum rules (and some additional rules / exceptions). If you think that a Moderator has treated you unfairly or is otherwise breaking forum rules, please PM the Lead Moderator or any Administrator. Do not accuse Moderators in public, the Squad Team will treat every complaint seriously and it is in our interest to discipline or remove Moderators who are known to break forum rules.   §3 Respect Squad Team members and Moderators
Do not ignore or argue against Admin, Moderator or Dev instructions on the forum. If you have a complaint, as per §2, please inform the Team in private. You are expected to follow orders given by the Moderation, Administration and Development Team, and it is necessary for smooth running of the forum to respect their decisions. Being stubborn or ignoring warnings will lead to harsher punishments - however, we do not tolerate Moderator / Admin abuse of power / privileges, so do not hesitate to inform other Team members if you feel treated unfairly.   §4 Bans and multiple accounts
If your account is temporarily or permanently banned, do NOT create another account. Bypassing a ban will result in further action, and a permanent ban of all of your accounts.
You are not allowed to have more than one account for any reason. If you share an internet connection with another user who has their own account, it might happen that this account is incorrectly identified as a secondary account - please get in touch with the Moderation or Administration to resolve such issues.

  1. As Title says, add binaural audio. WHAT THE HECK IS BINAURAL AUDIO? binaural audio is "Virtual Reality" for your ears and is a HUGE boost for immersion, way better than the best 7.1/5.1 sound system you can find. And even the cheapest earplugs are enough to get the proper immersion. Basically our ears hear everything "just" in Stereo as we only have 2 of them. Modern 5.1/7.1 Sourround systems try to make things listen real, by simplifing our perception of where the sound is coming from. If something explodes to your far left, only the left speakers will play that sound. If the explosion is 45° front-left, the right/front speakers will ALSO play the explosion sound, but at lower volume, according to the degrees of the explosions position. That might sound logical at first glance, but in reality your perception of "where does that come from" works different. Your brain doesn't measure the loudness at both ears, it is measuring the offset between the arrival times of the sound for each ear. So your left ear will register the explosion a fraction earlier than your right. Explanation video with some binaural examples in the middle and the end. (the video does NOT feature binaural audio in the beginning, wait for him to switch to it) (Binaural Audio actually means "2 Ears Audio" and is more related to recording something with a special 2 headed microphone. For Gaming purpose we should refer to HRTF: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head-related_transfer_function) WHAT DO I NEED FOR BINAURAL AUDIO? Basically nothing special. Binaural audio is basically how the real world sounds for you. As you have 2 ears, you only need 2 Speakers or any stereo headphone. Headphones give the greatest experience and even very cheap smartphone earplugs create an unbelievable illusion of reallity. IF you are using speakers for whatever reason, you have to make sure that they are directly to your left and right and not infront of you. Also the distance from your head has to be symmetrical. (i advise headphones) examples? watch complete according to instructions, you can skip to minute 2 or later if your impatient IS IT DIFFICULT TO IMPLEMENT IT INTO GAMES? WHAT ABOUT PERFORMANCE? From 1998-2003 it WAS already used in some games (and still is). have a look here. I am not familiar enough with the workflow to give any real good statment about this, BUT i've read over some articles and discussions which looked VERY promising. Calculating the traveling of soundwaves seems to be very intensive, but i read, that there are already VERY efficent approximations for that. Even some Engines are capable of doing it (e.g. OpenAL sound library ). Several mobile games do it already in similar ways. The technology already exists since mid 90's, and should really be an ease to implement with todays techs. Read here: https://www.reddit.com/r/truegaming/comments/126fjp/why_isnt_binaural_audio_used_in_gaming/ and here: https://www.reddit.com/r/truegaming/comments/4jc2c7/gaming_in_stereo_vs_binaural_what_games_can_you/ CONCLUSION The biggest problem is, that nobody is aware of how great that technology is and that you need a Headphone for it to reach its full potential. As there are already engines out, which are capable of this FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS i think time has come to make developers aware of it. Yes it is hard to sell this additional effort, because the promotion on youtube etc. only works, if the potential customer is ready to use a headset to watch the video, but to be fair: A HUGE number of players IS already using headphones all the time! IF you pump out some promo videos of the new sound with the 2 second explanation, that you shall use an headset to watch, i have no doubt, that this will go viral within weeks. Be the first Ego shooter with binaural sound! It is already Mind blowing in all day situations! Binaural videos about visiting an barber shop or a simple thunderstorm have MILLIONS of clicks, imagine a MILSIM using this technology! still not convinced? GO WATCH SOME BINAURAL AUDIO ON YOUTUBE AND GET AMAZED. i apologize for spelling and grammar gore. ain't nobody got time for dat. // Edit: a 3 Year old Engine running binaurale audio: https://forum.unity3d.com/threads/released-binaural-3d-audio-engine-for-games-and-vr.234037/

  6. Hi, Thanks to Santa Claus, i ve a Oculus Rift VC1. It is just amazingly immersive in simulation like X-plane. I was expecting to use it also with with SQUAD ... but i couldn t make it work. Of course i ve searched on the net ( specially here) but what i understand of the situation is the following : "As SQUAD is Unreal Engine based it was natively working but with some drawbacks. Starting a version this winter the compatibility has been broken. Since then ..no news" Is my understanding inline with reality ? When can we expect a VR compatibility ( partial or total) ? Regards & Thanks for your help. Fred.G
  7. How to play using the Vive

Does anyone know how to get the game to run using a Vive? I don't want to play in the theater mode I want the full immersion perspective.

  12. Oculus Rift Is The Future!

Ladies and Gentleman, I present you: The Future, something that I could only dream of when I was a child.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gB9jCEXVQDkRift is the device that will take us to the VR/Technological future that we dreamed in the 80s. Nothing more righteous that honor the 80s with it.
  13. Will Squad support any types of VR? Coming from being a full time Arma player I really would like to know if I can or will be able to make use of my Track IR when playing squad. I believe this is crucial to be able to look left and right and not be so horse blind when playing shooters. Any information would be appreciated!
  14. So, we have the Unofficial SLI Configuration thread and it's worked for some people, but the scaling is pretty terrible The thought of true SLI and Crossfire support for Unreal Engine 4 and Squad is shared by many of us that have multi-GPU systems. Well, it looks like it's coming soon! At the VRX 2015 conference in San Francisco, Nvidia and Epic Games announced their partnership and laid out their plans for virtual reality (VR). This includes VR SLI support in Unreal Engine 4! Read about it here. So yes it focuses on VR, but I imagine old school SLI support is bound to make it's way to us soon too! I sure hope so!
  15. Will there be any VR/Oculus support?

Will there be any support for VR, for example the Oculus Rift? I know that UE4 supports it but I don't know if it's been talked about on here. I also heard that freelook might be implemented like it is in Arma, is there any truth to that? I haven't had the chance to play Squad yet, but I played PR and I've seen youtube videos of Squad being played (it looks awesome), and VR (with freelook) would be an amazing experience. thanks
  16. This is one thing they really need in Arma series, but depending on how detailed this game graphics settings are going to get, i think that this should be a must. Having server options available to limit, have minimal, and or actual graphics and hardware settings requirements for a player to be able to join a in game server. What i mean by this is like in Arma you are able to disable grass, change how detailed objects are drawn, FOV, draw distance, particles, shadows, 3rd person, sound sources, and so on. Now having any of these setting enable, disabled, max out or turned right down can give an unfair advantage on an other play that might not be able to adjust these setting due to performance issues, or even someone trying to play ultra realistic with max settings, ect. I don't want to cast a shadow i can't see or hide in grass the enemy can't see. Also having server requirements for hardware like VR equipment must be used and Microphone must be connected should be an options as well. Have a pop-up window when attempting to join a server saying "user graphical settings are not enabled to join this server, LIST REQUIREMENTS, do you want to enable? Y/N" or for the hardware requirements "Hardware required to join server ie. VR,MIC please install it to join). if they don't meet the requirements, they can't join that server. Also disable/limit the clients graphics setting the server requires from being changed when in server game. Having these server options would allow an even playing ground in terms of what the players can or can not see. If this is implemented the game content libraries if they are not going to be should be protected/signed to stop people from modifying textures and models for that players benefit.
