Forum Rules 07/06/2016Introduction The Squad Team reserves the right to edit, update, add and remove rules at any time. Applicable rules extend to the PM system. Your PMs are private, but the Squad Team may be informed about unacceptable PM content by the receiving party. Section I: Posting Rules §1 Show Respect This community can only work if we all respect each other. To that end, it is imperative that any time you engage with another user, either directly or indirectly, you show them respect with the content of your post. In particular refrain from flaming, insulting, abusing, taunting, racism, and other similar types of actions towards other forum users. §2 Attitude & Behavior Poor attitude and behavior are the most common ways a negative / unsafe environment is created and perpetuated. As such that kind of behavior will not be allowed on these forums. Please be mindful of this rule when posting personal positions and opinions regarding topics which could be considered contentious in nature. As a rule of thumb, keep your posts civil in nature, and refrain from making posts that are likely to incite arguments and create a negative environment. As a privately hosted web forum we reserve the right to maintain an environment that we are happy the majority of our players are comfortable with. §3 Swearing While we will not strictly moderate every little swear that occurs, please try to avoid excessive bad language. The moderation reserves the right to remove rants and unsuitable content at any time. §4 Illegal Topics
Prohibited topics include, but are not limited to: Piracy, drugs (including cannabis), pornography, religion, racism, sexism, homo/trans -phobic content, videos and images showing violent death or serious injury, ‘spam threads’, hacking & griefing (endorsement thereof), religion, politics, etc. Prohibition may be suspended for some threads if they are found to be suitable by the Moderation (such as scientific debate).
If there is doubt, the Moderation Team can decide whether a topic is considered illegal. §5 Attitude towards Squad and the Development Team
As per §1 and §2, keep in mind to be respectful and reasonable, not only towards all users of the forum, but also towards the Squad Team and towards any ideas and content and the game itself. Criticism is welcome, but if it is not constructive and/or if it is offensive, the Moderation may need to step in. Please refrain from posting if you are upset, angry or drunk, or you may be punished for things you wouldn’t have otherwise written, which is not in anyone's interest. §6 Language & Legibility
Please post only in English. Non-English content (including non-legible content) may be removed. If you see someone posting in another language because s/he apparently does not speak English, please report their post - if you can, you may reply in their language to explain their question, but please do translate their and your message so it can be reviewed by the Moderation. ‘Hiding’ insults in non-English posts will be punished harshly. Posts written largely in ‘leetspeak’ or full of spelling / grammatical errors may be treated like non-English content. This rule does not extend to PMs. §7 Forum structure & Search
Please ensure when posting a new thread, that the thread is located inside the correct forum section. Check all forum section titles to judge where your thread should belong. Threads created in the wrong forum section will be moved or deleted.
Before posting a new thread, please make use of the forum search to find older threads about the same topic. In doubt, it is recommended to rather post in an existing thread, unless that thread is years out of date. However, do not bump old threads without adding a new question / answer / insight that wasn’t in that thread before - use common sense. §8 Thread Titles
Please name your thread appropriately; the subject title should sum up / explain the content in the thread. If you fail to name your thread properly (such as ‘Hey!’ or ‘Check this out!’ or ‘Help!’), we will either rename or lock the topic. Repeated offense may lead to infractions. The practice of using CAPITALS only in your thread title is not allowed and will be edited or the thread will simply be deleted. Strange or abnormal Unicode characters should be excluded from thread titles for the sake of being distracting and unnecessary.
§9 Thread Capitalization
Please ensure that your post is not in all CAPITALS, as this is not allowed. Any threads posted in all caps will subsequently be removed from the forum. Repeated offenses may lead to infractions against your account. This practice is not approved or accepted here.
§10 Images in posts
When posting images, mind the following restrictions:
.gifs will be allowed and may be removed by Staff if deemed necessary.
Maximum size for images is 1280x1024.
Do not include more than ~1 large image per paragraph of text, unless in image collection / announcement threads. Link to further images.
Consider posting thumbnails. You may post a few more images per post if they are reasonably small, the details are for the Moderation to judge. §11 The use of BBCode
It is allowed to use the BBCode in your posts. Over usage is not allowed. You may use the Bold in a reasonable manner but not for the whole text body. You may use the size feature but in a limited reasonable manner. You may not use any of the additional fonts at all. Color may be used to high light a point but again, not for the whole text body. Moderators will be watching for misuse and will edit when required without giving notice. Continued disregard for this rule will result in Moderator action in the form of warnings. §12 Complaints of Server/Admin Abuse Reports of server/admin abuse will not be posted publicly. All reports concerning this type of behavior should be place in the appropriate sub-forum. http://forums.joinsquad.com/forum/241-report-server-admin-abuse/ All posts made outside of this area will be be removed. Section II: Reporting & Moderation §1 Reporting Posts
There is a Post Report system in place. If you notice a post that violates forum rules, simply use the exclamation mark icon below the users avatar image to send a report to the Moderation. We will then review this post. Your report will not be made public and cannot be linked to your person by anyone outside of the Squad Team. You will not be punished for using the Report system even if the report was false, unless you repeatedly abuse the system to spam it.
Do not ‘report’ posts by replying directly in public to them. In case of spambots, this prompts them to respond in turn, spamming the forum further. This also fuels flame wars and arguments. §2 Reporting Moderators
Moderators are subject to the same forum rules (and some additional rules / exceptions). If you think that a Moderator has treated you unfairly or is otherwise breaking forum rules, please PM the Lead Moderator or any Administrator. Do not accuse Moderators in public, the Squad Team will treat every complaint seriously and it is in our interest to discipline or remove Moderators who are known to break forum rules. §3 Respect Squad Team members and Moderators
Do not ignore or argue against Admin, Moderator or Dev instructions on the forum. If you have a complaint, as per §2, please inform the Team in private. You are expected to follow orders given by the Moderation, Administration and Development Team, and it is necessary for smooth running of the forum to respect their decisions. Being stubborn or ignoring warnings will lead to harsher punishments - however, we do not tolerate Moderator / Admin abuse of power / privileges, so do not hesitate to inform other Team members if you feel treated unfairly. §4 Bans and multiple accounts
If your account is temporarily or permanently banned, do NOT create another account. Bypassing a ban will result in further action, and a permanent ban of all of your accounts.
You are not allowed to have more than one account for any reason. If you share an internet connection with another user who has their own account, it might happen that this account is incorrectly identified as a secondary account - please get in touch with the Moderation or Administration to resolve such issues.

SgtHerhi posted a topic in General DiscussionWELCOME! Hello and welcome to the Squad community! We here love getting new players into the game and seeing them stumble through the learning curve to become capable Squaddies! But as a brief disclaimer: Squad is very different from your average FPS and the quality of gameplay hinges entirely on each individual player’s shoulders on a full server. Simply because for the game to function as intended, some things need to be known and need to happen by the players hand for a good game of Squad to happen. Otherwise it’ll be a shitshow one way or the other. But when it all works… Oh boy will you remember that round or moment of Squad for the rest of your life. So to help you guys experience the true nature of Squad and for you to be one of those players having a positive impact in the upcoming FreeWeekend games, I’ll go through some basic things you must know and some situations you might encounter, but there are also many other passionate Squaddies out there who have spent time and effort to help you learn the ins and outs of the game in a more accessible form than my written ramblings - If you’re not the type of person to read – have a video! There are plenty more available on every possible topic, but these I consider giving something for everyone! Whytoe covers 10 commandments to Squad 3:34 – bare minimum to know going into your first games TheTacticalBrit dives into the fundamentals of Squad and covers all critical aspects in a Ultimate Squad Guide-series PT 1/6 Here 26:49 HOW TO NOT SUCK AT SQUAD - TEXT/IMG GUIDE WHAT IS SQUAD? Steam page says: “Squad is a 50 vs 50 multiplayer first-person shooter that aims to capture combat realism through communication and teamplay” Well firstly the 50 vs 50 is currently horse shit, Squad is 40 vs 40 and the aim is to get the player count up to 100 by the end of 2018. Secondly, in my opinion Squad is aiming (and succeeding) in filling a gap between the Battlefield series and the Arma series, offering the best of both worlds with accessible and intense firefights, but in a slower environment than Battlefield and the emphasis being on teamwork, teamwork and teamwork. A rough comparison between games commonly associated with Squad At its best: Squad is a deeply strategic and immersive teamwork focused experience that creates memorable moments and is thoroughly enjoyable through a whole 45min to 1h 30min match. At its worst: Squad is a shitshow of a complicated team deathmatch with no strategy or team play to be seen and where the points don’t matter. What creates the difference between the two? You …andtheother79dudes WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN FOR A GOOD GAME OF SQUAD Squads are formed in the preparation phase before the round starts, Squad Leaders communicate a simple tactic of who goes where and uses what vehicles, give them a moment of silence while you haven't spawned until you're asked to spawn or hold your spawn. Do not spawn at round start unless asked to, it creates extra hassle for your Squad and results in wasted vehicles used only for one way taxis or you having to walk from Main, which you shouldn’t do except for the very smallest maps. If you accidentally spawn and there is no room in vehicles, just respawn and wait for a spawn point to be set up closer to the fight, no one needs to walk for 10 minutes. Squad Leaders make sure that all the flags they want to contest have some players going to them and a minimum of 2 FOBs are placed early on (personal preference, 1 is just asking to walk from Main at some point). The usual form is to have the forward FOB somewhere in the vicinity of the middle flag (most important flag) and another one as a backup somewhere in a little safer spot. The outcome of the match can swing very quickly to your or your enemies' favor if one team neglects placing FOBs at all or the middle flag(s) are not contested by both teams early on. Losing an objective is a big deal so if you lose the initial fight at the middle objective, make sure you've got someone at the new defense flag quickly because it only takes 3 people to capture it from behind you and at that point the game is pretty much over because you've just been backcapped. Always think ahead, even if you're not the one making the decisions. A PICTURE ILLUSTRATING THE FIRST 2 MINUTES OF AN AVERAGE MATCH -Notice some people doing backline duties for the opening minutes of a match to ensure the team has a solid chance at winning the game. Without the backline work of capturing and placing FOBs, your team WILL crumble. Same principles apply for the enemy team, if you get the easiest win of your life and just walk over the enemy team, it’s most likely because they neglected the backline duties and all just wanted to shoot from minute 1. For a good game of Squad, both teams in the server need to be competent to an extent and have a “We”-mentality going on, not a “Me”-mentality, which will result in a 20 minute deathmatch that no one enjoys. HOW TO WIN A MATCH OF SQUAD / WHAT ****ING TICKETS Tickets are the way the winner of a match is determined in Squad, typically both teams start with 500-575 tickets in AAS (Assault And Secure) mode and the one to run out first loses. Each player “life” is worth 1 ticket, Vehicles anywhere between 2 to 35 tickets depending on the vehicle. FOBs (the big spawn points) are worth 20 tickets. The Objectives have a varying cost on them as well depending on the map layer. Capturing a neutral flag doesn’t cost the enemy tickets, but taking one that the enemy is controlling decreases the enemy tickets and even gives some back to your team. If you capture all the flags in the map the enemy team will enter a state of “Mercy Bleed”, which will drain their tickets down at a very quick rate to end the round quickly as you’ve absolutely demolished them! Winning a game is a delicate balance of playing the active objectives (orange triangle for attack, purple shield for defense) , taking out enemy vehicles and spawn points and killing players all the while protecting your own. Vehicles have a big impact ticket-wise so use caution with them at all times, but the largest impact is had with spawn points. Securing your own FOBs and Rally Points and taking out the enemy ones are key in taking objectives and gaining ground. SPAWNING / CONTROLS / BASIC THINGS HOW TO NOT SUCK AT BASIC THINGS – THIS COVERS Spawning, Flags and Logistics briefly CONTROL SCHEME FROM LOADING SCREEN DYING You’ll be doing plenty of this, but don’t worry it’s a part of the learning curve. People that know the maps and are used to the weapons, the pace etc. will be taking your head off plenty of times, but fear not. A dozen games in and you’ll already be able to fight back a lot better! Squad has decently long spawn timers and each player death contributes 1 ticket loss to the team when you press “Give up” or you bleed out after being incapacitated for a few minutes. Thus, you should never give up straight away when you die in case a medic can get to you (check your map!) and also because you won’t get back in the fight any quicker looking at the timer going down. But medics are important and if at all possible you should wait for them to revive you and as they do, try to give them any useful information about your situation (for example if the enemy that killed you is in the same room as you, you better tell that medic before he comes in or the medic will just get killed for nothing!) SPOTTING ENEMIES / COMMUNICATING IN SQUAD It can be extremely hard to pinpoint enemies in your first games as you have no idea where they’re coming from so listen carefully to your squad calling them out and possibly them being marked on the map. Remember that the map markers for enemies are placed manually by Squad Leaders and are not 100% accurate. To spot them yourself, think of a logical way they should be coming from and stop for a while and observe, any movement is easier to pick up when you’re standing still yourself. Getting this right takes time and patience, don’t be frustrated if you get the feeling that the “trees are shooting you”. While tweaking some settings might give you marginal clarity in the picture, the biggest miracle aid will be to just get into another game and get some more experience! Try to keep the voice chat related to things in game, and use the right channels to convey the right information. Typically, chat to pass the time, individual enemy positions, and anything using compass bearings should be in local chat ('V' key) which has a range of about 50 meters, while large enemy groups, spawnpoints, objective status ("we're losing point XYZ!") and vehicles should be in squad chat ('B' key) which is audible to your squad mates from anywhere on the map. You should also try to use directions relative to objectives or fixed points in squad chat (eg. "Enemies coming in west of the bridge"), since compass bearings will vary enormously based on everyone elses positions (for example, 120 SE for you could easily be 60 NE for someone 150m to your south) Crude example of how only yelling out whatever your compass reads is not useful to anyone VEHICLES CHEAT SHEET FOR VEHICLES, VEHICLE NAMES, TICKET COSTS ETC In Squad vehicles are extremely important to the outcome of the fight. Each vehicle has a ticket cost associated with them that your team loses upon losing the vehicle. For any of the bigger vehicles, APCs and MRAPs etc. the cost is very high so you should treat them with respect and try to keep them safe at all times and only engage when you think you have the advantage. They are not tanks and driving one into a town with enemies will lead into its swift destruction. Each vehicle has to be claimed by a Squad Leader to be used by their squad either by the Squad Leader entering the vehicle or remotely by having a squad member next to the vehicle press F and the Squad Leader approving it from his radial menu. Notice: Not everyone will get a personal vehicle in this game. They are valuable assets and shouldn’t be used as a 1-way taxi to get into the frontlines and be abandoned. Abandoning vehicles will bite your team in the ass HARD. Especially Logistics vehicles are absolutely vital, if your Squad leader uses one as a 1-man transport when there are no actual transports available, you have my permission to call that man an irresponsible ****nugget. TEAMKILLING Teamkilling is heavily frowned upon by the community and intentional TKs can and will get you banned from many servers. Accidents happen and it’s normal to occasionally mistake a friend to a foe – just remember to apologize and it’s usually fine! It's an intense game, tempers will rise, but try to find a way to solve the situation that is not TKing anyone. The playerbase is very mature compared to other shooter games, unbelievable but true, you can actually talk to people usually. TKing – Don’t do it. Trust me on this. I HAVEN’T PLAYED THE GAME BEFORE - SHOULD I SQUADLEAD? Short answer & personal opinion: No. If you create a Squad that makes you the Squad Leader and there are certain expectations of you as a player in that role. It’s not like other games *cough battlefield* where it’s just a title. Here it actually has a meaning and you’ve got some responsibilities. You're essentially one of 4-5 Squad Leaders in the team and together you are the driving force and the strategic hive mind guiding your team. This requires some experience in the game so please DO NOT CREATE A SQUAD = BECOME A SQUADLEADER IF YOU'RE PLAYING YOUR VERY FIRST GAMES. I only say that for the benefit of everyone in the game, even if you believe you're Patton reborn, at least observe a more experienced Squad Leader for a few rounds before trying it out yourself. No one is perfect in their first game and it can be very stressful / demanding so you need a certain attitude going into it. If you're interested in trying it out anyhow, check out some of the SquadLeading guides to get a few tips on it. Nothing is stopping you from doing it in your first game but I can guarantee you that you and your teammates will have a better experience if you try to grasp the basics first and when you feel fully in control you can drop yourself in the deep end and try out SL:ing! LIFE SKILLS & SITUATIONS YOU MIGHT FIND YOURSELF IN “I just played a round on a Free Weekend – no one was talking and it was really bad” The cold hard fact is that in Squad there are shit rounds, average rounds and amazing rounds. On a Freeweekend the first 2 are more common than the last one. Simply because the overall skill of the current players drops significantly with a huge influx of Freeweekend players coming in and dwarfing the existing, partly competent player population. That’s not a bad thing and getting more people to try the game and enjoy it is great, but by simple maths this will lead to games where a big majority of the players are brand new. And all the stuff I’ve written here and you’ve maybe read 20% of and understood 5% of is stuff those guys have never heard of. And they try to play Squad like it’s Battlefield most commonly and that makes for teamdeathmatchy-games. But. The experienced community members are out in force and there will be thousands of people playing Squad Leader this weekend to try and teach the ropes for the new guys to get good experiences for everyone. If you haven’t bumped into one yet, it’s only a matter of time until it happens! If you’re lucky you might even bump into one of the devs running their own noob friendly squads and participating in the event! Just give it another shot, once you get that “true” Squad experience, you’ll understand why we all stick with this game through the occasional bad rounds. "Nothing is happening - this is boring” That can happen! The freedom the players have in Squad make for some of the most epic strategies and engagements you will ever encounter in a game, but it also comes with a downside. Sometimes the players in the other team are just too inept to get anything done and they simply can’t get anyone to you, usually on a Defense flag and you might find yourself sitting there doing nothing anywhere from a few minutes to 10-15 in a rare worst case scenario. Smaller downtime is a part of the game and for many it’s what makes the game feel impactful and makes every engagement more exciting as you know if you wipe them out they can’t spawn for some time and makes every kill feel rewarding and that it actually matters. But once you wipe them out, they legit can’t spawn and thus you being amazing has created you some downtime. "My squad isn't communicating" Any number of reasons might cause this, you might all be new, people might not have mics, the Squad Leader might not know he is the Squad Leader. Try asking politely if you have a plan or what’s going on and people might wake up. If nothing else, the Squad Leader should always be able to communicate and be the one talking a lot. There are differences in how much players want to micromanage as SLs, but some standard of communication is to be expected. Otherwise, leave the Squad and check out another one. If the same repeats, considering switching to another server as communication is crucial to both the gameplay and enjoyment of the game. "No one has made a squad and the game is about to start" Just keep waiting, someone will eventually gather the courage to do it. DO NOT create a squad on your own if you don’t plan on being the Squad Leader and give the role to someone else who joined the squad. This is extremely shitty and causes unnecessary hassle. Have I mentioned patience? "I don't know where I should spawn" Just look where you Squad members (green) are on the map and go from the closest one unless told otherwise. If no spawns are present do ask politely where to spawn or if you should hold on for a moment. Spawning randomly in a FOB where your squad is not is usually bad and separates you from the rest of the squad for a long period of time. “I spawned in at Main and all the vehicles left except for this big tank looking thing which I can’t get into and I now need to walk from Main to the fight in the biggest map in the game, this will take me 15 minutes and this game is shit” Don’t be silly, the vehicles are in a hurry to leave when the game starts and if you spawn as all you can see are the tail lights disappearing in the distance, they’re not going to turn around a vehicle with 18 people in it to pick you up. There’s no point for you to start walking now either because it will actually take you 15 minutes to get to the battlefield on foot so just respawn by opening chat, deleting everything in the line and typing “respawn”. Then wait for that truck to get into the active combat zone and they will set up spawn points for you to get into the action with the rest! "I was kicked out of a squad – everyone hates me" The SL can kick anyone they want whenever they want. It’s a part of the game and the Squad Leader can choose who he wants to play with. Maybe you did something wrong and he didn’t bother to explain it, maybe your microphone wasn’t on and he thought you couldn’t communicate, maybe he made room for a friend / clanmate or was simply too slow to lock his 2-man vehicle that didn’t need another person in it! Don’t worry about it, just hop into another one. Rarely is it a personal vendetta against you. “My Squad Leader seems to be intoxicated” Good. He will lead you into great adventure. “My Squad Leader is an asshole” Leave the squad, no need to play with assholes. Unless you're mistaking giving orders and getting important things done quickly for being a prick then well yeah I've got nothing for that, grow a pair I guess. TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS / HOW TO FIX ERRORS Squad is still very much a work in progress and things go wrong and shit breaks. It happens. Here’s OWI’s tips to common problems And here is the official support helpdesk for a DIY man and common problems And if all else fails, first jump in to the official Squad Community Discord and post your problem in the #support channel where community members and devs alike will help you sort through problems and get into the game. Remember to be polite and offer as much info about your system and problem as possible to get quicker help to your problem! And there is also the possibility to contact support directly at [email protected], but be aware they will be swamped with support requests during Free Weekend, so I'd say the discord is your best option! TL;DR You cheeky bugger. How dare you skip through all of that goodness. You need to work on your patience. Anyhow, here’s the quick rundown: It's Free Weekend, there will be amazing games and there will be shit games. The Squad community will show up in force to teach & lead newbies, but the fact is that there won't always be enough willing veterans to lead squads. So don't give up after a shit game or two, take my word on this and believe that when you come across an amazing game / squad, you'll remember it for years to come. Have a microphone and use it, it's practically mandatory to enjoy the game. Remember this game is all about "We", not "Me". The community is what makes the game great. Try to have a positive impact on it in your games, even when things get heated as they do with a high intensity game depending on massive amounts of teamwork. Shit happens, move on and enjoy the game and allow others to do the same too. Again, welcome to Squad, enjoy the Free Weekend madness and to summarize in the undying words of Mahatma Gandhi: “Don’t be such a **** all the time”. LOOKING FOR SOMETHING? SgtHerhi posted a topic in General DiscussionHello fresh Squad players and welcome to the community! To start this out, please remember that Squad is in its Alpha stage still, which means all content is subject to change and issues/bugs/glitches may happen. So the best tip I can give you is to have patience - both inside the game itself and outside of it. To start with a disclaimer, this is not an official guide / post / anything, I’m just a random drunkard trying to ease the pain of new players coming in to a game with a relatively steep learning curve. Squad is a great game. But what keeps us regulars coming back to it and loving it so much are the players in it - the community. It is indisputably the best aspect of the game and a great team, a great Squad Leader even can make even a losing fight enjoyable. So please remember that there are A LOT of new players playing this weekend and the level of gameplay can be very varied as everyone's trying their best to learn the ropes. There is going to be a small army of experienced players playing as Squad Leaders to help keep the gameplay fluid and as close to normal level as possible, so give those guys some credit and try to be a good squad member - you're most likely in good hands with a Squad Leader that is brandishing some sort of [Clan Tags] but there are naturally plenty of other great players & leaders that are not with any specific group. If you find yourself in a good squad, enjoy the moment and feel free to ask any questions you have when the situation isn’t too hectic, people are keen to help. It’s common for squads made of complete strangers to “click” and keep playing for multiple rounds in a row, seek for those opportunities and you’re going to have a good time. WHAT IS SQUAD? At its best: A deeply strategic and immersive teamwork focused experience that creates memorable moments and is thoroughly enjoyable through a whole one to two hour match. At its worst: A shitshow of a complicated team deathmatch with no strategy or team play to be seen and where the points don’t matter. What creates the difference between the two? You (andtheother79dudes) GAMEPLAY TIPS Loading screen image with all the controls etc. SPAWNING There are 3 ways to spawn in Squad, Main Spawn, FOB and Rally Point. 2 latter ones are placed by the players. This means some players need to sort them out while others get straight to the fight. This might mean you have to sometimes wait a few minutes before you’re needed to spawn at the start of the round so please listen to your Squad Leader before you spawn in at Main. **Don’t spawn at round start unless asked to** - This is a purely logistic issue/choice from the Squad Leaders on how many vehicles they want to use. Some simply won’t have a place to sit. Be patient, you’ll get to the fight sooner or later. PROTIP: Rally Points are squad specific spawns with 10 spawns until it runs out. Try to always leave the last spawn for your Squad leader so he can place a new one! DYING Squad has quite long spawn timers to reward kills and decrease the clown-car effect of spawning, making each player’s life more valuable than in other games. You should **ALWAYS** stay in the downed state from 30 seconds to a minute because you won’t be able to spawn any quicker anyway and that gives your medics a chance to pick you up and save that precious ticket. SPOTTING ENEMIES It can be extremely hard to pinpoint enemies in your first games as you have no idea where they’re coming from so listen carefully to your squad calling them out and possibly them being marked on the map. Use your compass at the bottom of the screen to call the enemy locations with directions like “Enemy infantry North West, 200 meters (estimation), multiple”. VEHICLES In Squad vehicles are extremely important to the outcome of the fight. Each vehicle has a ticket cost associated with them that your team loses upon losing the vehicle. For any of the bigger vehicles, APCs and Humvees etc. the cost is very high so you should treat them with respect and try to keep them safe at all times and only engage when you think you have the advantage. They are not tanks and driving one into a town with enemies will lead into its swift destruction. Each vehicle has to be claimed by a Squad Leader to be used by their squad either by the Squad Leader entering the vehicle or remotely by having 2 squad members next to the vehicle and the Squad Leader claiming it from his radial menu. Protip: E to start the engine WHAT ****ING TICKETS? Tickets are the way the winner of a match is determined in Squad, typically both teams start with 500 tickets in AAS mode and the one to run out first loses. Each player “life” is worth 1 ticket, Vehicles anywhere between 2 to 35 tickets depending on the vehicle. FOBs (the big spawn points) are worth 20 tickets. The Objectives have a varying cost on them as well depending on the map layer. Capturing a neutral flag doesn’t cost the enemy tickets but taking one that the enemy is controlling decreases the enemy tickets and even gives some back to your team. Controlling the majority of flags on the map also makes the enemy team “bleed” tickets = lose tickets over time. TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS / HOW TO FIX ERRORS Squad is an Early Access game in its Alpha stage. Sometimes things go wrong. Here are the basic tips to help solve a majority of issues. It’s impossible to say what will fix what as every system is unique and an untold amount of things can go wrong, but these should help. If issues persist, seek proper Support either on the official forums or Discord (links at the bottom). Clearing the Cache –This is your #1 solution to all Squad related problems, launch the game, go to Settings – Game Settings and click the “Clear Cached Data” and restart your game. This is especially true for returning players who have had a previous version of Squad installed at some point. Verify integrity of files in Steam – In Steam library right click on Squad – Properties – Local Files – Verify Integrity of Game files. Restart Steam. Turn off all skins in the in game settings (you might not have skins, they were a limited thing and a little broken atm and cause issues) Have you tried turning it off and on again? Restart your computer. LIFE SKILLS 101 BY HERHI A couple situations you might find yourself in and my personal opinion on how to fix the situation: "My squad isn't communicating" Any number of reasons might cause this, you might all be new, people might not have mics, the Squad Leader might not know he is the Squad Leader. "I don't know where I should spawn" Ask. "I was kicked out of a squad" The SL can kick anyone they want whenever they want. Maybe you did something wrong and he didn’t bother to explain it, maybe your microphone wasn’t on and he thought you couldn’t communicate, maybe he made room for a friend / clanmate. Don’t worry about it, just hop into another one. Rarely is it a personal vendetta against you. “My Squad Leader seems to be intoxicated” Good. He will lead you into great adventure. “My Squad Leader is an asshole” Is he really? Or is he telling you what to do because that’s what he is meant to do. If he actually is an asshole, just leave the squad and join another one, no need to make a scene. “I was kicked / banned from a server – all the moderators are power hungry assholes” No they are not. All good Squad servers are run by communities and usually only trusted members have moderator rights on a server. They are there to make the game more enjoyable for everyone on the server – usually at the cost of their own enjoyment. Believe me, they would rather be playing the game rather than hunt evidence of disruptive behavior. If you feel your kick / ban was unjustified, almost all servers / communities have their own Discord channels where you can bring it up. Remember to be polite, it could’ve been an honest mistake of someone’s fat fingers. TL;DR Patience is key. The community is what makes the game great - don't be an *** and you won't be treated like one. ENJOY THE FREE WEEKEND MADNESS! After the recent update I've experienced a heavy drop in fps – from a stable 60+fps to 25 and below. At game start, everything is peachy, but a few minutes in and forward the fps just dives off a cliff. I tried running the Squad Troubleshooter V2, nuking the game cache both through game and OS, un- and re-installed GPU drivers (also a rollback), reinstalled the game twice on two separate hdds(maybe the first was broken right?), following performance guide setups etc. – Nothing helps, no matter the graphic settings and hardware setup the fps stay below 25! It is to be said that Squad has never crashed because of this, the FPS drop is just too severe to keep on playing! I've also not made any changes to my setup during the rollout of the 9.5 update, all my other games behaves like normal. I also had no problem running Squad before the update, stable 60fps and no crashes since I bought the game. BUT tried I enabling Full Texture Loading which bumps the fps to 45 without any too severe drops. Anyone else with fps problems since recent update that can verify? - Could this be a memory leak thing? I'm at work, so will post logs and monitor data when I get home, do a third play-through to verify and then submit an official bug report. Hello, ever since the new update i'v havent been able to start the game. I press launch game and the loading screen would appear and the process would end right after the loading screen is over. I tested this with task manager and saw the squad.exe process end right after the small loading screen with the small "cancel" sign at the bottom loaded. There are no error signs or anything it just kills the process right after the launch. Thanks for helping.
Well this is nice. Wanted to get into playing Squad, but I'm encountering an error that doesn't seem to have been had before. From the launcher, I get the message "Network Error - Error establishing SSL connection with the server!" I'm not sure why I need an SSL connection, but Squad seems to insist on it. So far I've tried Running Steam as an admin Running Squad and Squad Launcher as an admin Putting them on compatibility mode for Windows 7 since it worked on another computer that had Windows 7 last time I played Uninstalling and reinstalling EasyAntiCheat Uninstalling and Reinstalling Squad File Validation through Steam Rebooting Allowing it through Windows Firewall Allowing it through Avast AntiVirus Disabled Avast and attempted to run it Not sure what to do, spent close to 2 hours on this
The official Squad wiki has arrived - hooray! Read the announcement here. The user manual will now retire and its content transfer to the wiki. Read more about the transfer process here. There will be no more updates coming out for the user manual and version 1.1 will remain the last and final version of the user manual. The porting process will taking time, meanwhile please keep reading the user manual here. But bear in mind the manual is outdated and does not represent the current state of the game. Usgu's "Unoffical Squad Alpha Manual" has grown into the "Official Squad User Manual", just in time to introduce our game to the new Riflemen and Early Access players. This is for you, guys. Using the manual Obviously, read it, particularly if you are new to Squad. I also think that even Squad veterans can learn one or two things from the manual, too - so at least have a look through. You will see some background information at the start of the manual and troubleshooting and additional information at the end of the manual. Hopefully, all useful stuff for you guys. I would also like to see that, where appropriate, questions on the forums are answered by referring to the manual, ideally with specific page reference. If that answer is in the manual, why would you want to write up that information again and again if all you have to do is refer to a page? Additional side effect is that people are being made aware of the manual and will be using it themselves to look for answers in the future. Basically, you have taught them to help themselves. That is always a good thing. A useful tip: When you are using Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing the manual, open up the booksmarks. All chapters are listed there and this makes navigating the manual a dream. Contributions Help from the community for this manual is more than welcome and needed. Post your suggestions for the manual in this thread or send me a PM. I am sure you will find missing or incorrect information and many spelling mistakes. There is is always room to make things better. If something is not in the manual but you think it should be, let me know. The manual will not answer all questions, but it should answer all game-related questions pretty competently. So if you see some questions reoccurring again and again on the forums and they are within the scope of the manual, put a link to such discussion in this thread and I will consider adding this kind of information to the manual. As I do not have the time to follow all discussions on the forums anymore, it would be very useful if you point out such discussions to me. If you have free time at hand and really want to contribute to the manual, become a co-author or assistant. There is always something to do on the manual, particularly after a new update has come out. Write new text, update text, improve text, take new screenshots, proofread, apply visual improvements to the manual. The list is endless. Any task you help out with makes a contribution. If you want to become part of the manual team, send me a PM. Translations Existing translations are listed under the section "Download" above. If you are contemplating to write a new translation of the manual or you are already part of the translation team and looking for more information, head over to following post for more information. Linking to the manual If you want to link to the manual, please use the forum post: http://forums.joinsquad.com/topic/4766-the-squad-user-manual/ If you want to directly link to a PDF, use the following link - it will always contain the latest English manual: http://downloads.joinsquad.com/Manual/Squad_Manual_Latest.pdf Do not link directly to the PDF of a particular manual version. Very soon that link will be out-of-date when a new manual revision has been released. If you are in-game and you want to tell others of the manual, you type into text chat the following short URL (kindly provided by invisible.nin/SINE): http://tinyurl.com/squadmanual Alternatively, you can refer them to the "Questions" subforum - this thread is pinned there and easy to find. The manual even has its own subforum section in the main forum overview - you can't miss it. My PC sometimes freezes while playing Squad. Latest one: I played for around ~40 Min and than the PC froze entirely. So, Squad is still open but it just gives me a freeze frame. No Audio. I tried to just wait for the freeze to go by, but nothing happened also after a half an hour. The only way to work on the PC again is by pressing its power button until it forces a shutdown. (A half of myself is always dying when I'm forced to do something like that :( After that I can start the PC the normal way and nothing seems to has happened. This occurs nearly every time I play.
