      Forum Rules   07/06/2016

Introduction   The Squad Team reserves the right to edit, update, add and remove rules at any time. Applicable rules extend to the PM system. Your PMs are private, but the Squad Team may be informed about unacceptable PM content by the receiving party.   Section I: Posting Rules   §1 Show Respect This community can only work if we all respect each other. To that end, it is imperative that any time you engage with another user, either directly or indirectly, you show them respect with the content of your post. In particular refrain from flaming, insulting, abusing, taunting, racism, and other similar types of actions towards other forum users.   §2 Attitude & Behavior Poor attitude and behavior are the most common ways a negative / unsafe environment is created and perpetuated. As such that kind of behavior will not be allowed on these forums. Please be mindful of this rule when posting personal positions and opinions regarding topics which could be considered contentious in nature. As a rule of thumb, keep your posts civil in nature, and refrain from making posts that are likely to incite arguments and create a negative environment. As a privately hosted web forum we reserve the right to maintain an environment that we are happy the majority of our players are comfortable with.   §3 Swearing While we will not strictly moderate every little swear that occurs, please try to avoid excessive bad language. The moderation reserves the right to remove rants and unsuitable content at any time.   §4 Illegal Topics
Prohibited topics include, but are not limited to: Piracy, drugs (including cannabis), pornography, religion, racism, sexism, homo/trans -phobic content, videos and images showing violent death or serious injury, ‘spam threads’, hacking & griefing (endorsement thereof), religion, politics,  etc. Prohibition may be suspended for some threads if they are found to be suitable by the Moderation (such as scientific debate).
If there is doubt, the Moderation Team can decide whether a topic is considered illegal.   §5 Attitude towards Squad and the Development Team
As per §1 and §2, keep in mind to be respectful and reasonable, not only towards all users of the forum, but also towards the Squad Team and towards any ideas and content and the game itself. Criticism is welcome, but if it is not constructive and/or if it is offensive, the Moderation may need to step in. Please refrain from posting if you are upset, angry or drunk, or you may be punished for things you wouldn’t have otherwise written, which is not in anyone's interest.   §6 Language & Legibility
Please post only in English. Non-English content (including non-legible content) may be removed. If you see someone posting in another language because s/he apparently does not speak English, please report their post - if you can, you may reply in their language to explain their question, but please do translate their and your message so it can be reviewed by the Moderation. ‘Hiding’ insults in non-English posts will be punished harshly. Posts written largely in ‘leetspeak’ or full of spelling / grammatical errors may be treated like non-English content. This rule does not extend to PMs.   §7 Forum structure & Search
Please ensure when posting a new thread, that the thread is located inside the correct forum section. Check all forum section titles to judge where your thread should belong. Threads created in the wrong forum section will be moved or deleted.
Before posting a new thread, please make use of the forum search to find older threads about the same topic. In doubt, it is recommended to rather post in an existing thread, unless that thread is years out of date. However, do not bump old threads without adding a new question / answer / insight that wasn’t in that thread before - use common sense.   §8 Thread Titles
Please name your thread appropriately; the subject title should sum up / explain the content in the thread. If you fail to name your thread properly (such as ‘Hey!’ or ‘Check this out!’ or ‘Help!’), we will either rename or lock the topic. Repeated offense may lead to infractions. The practice of using CAPITALS only in your thread title is not allowed and will be edited or the thread will simply be deleted. Strange or abnormal Unicode characters should be excluded from thread titles for the sake of being distracting and unnecessary.
      §9 Thread Capitalization
Please ensure that your post is not in all CAPITALS, as this is not allowed. Any threads posted in all caps will subsequently be removed from the forum. Repeated offenses may lead to infractions against your account. This practice is not approved or accepted here.
        §10 Images in posts
When posting images, mind the following restrictions:
.gifs will be allowed and may be removed by Staff if deemed necessary.
Maximum size for images is 1280x1024.
Do not include more than ~1 large image per paragraph of text, unless in image collection / announcement threads. Link to further images.
Consider posting thumbnails. You may post a few more images per post if they are reasonably small, the details are for the Moderation to judge.   §11 The use of BBCode
It is allowed to use the BBCode in your posts. Over usage is not allowed. You may use the Bold in a reasonable manner but not for the whole text body. You may use the size feature but in a limited reasonable manner. You may not use any of the additional fonts at all. Color may be used to high light a point but again, not for the whole text body. Moderators will be watching for misuse and will edit when required without giving notice. Continued disregard for this rule will result in Moderator action in the form of warnings.   §12 Complaints of Server/Admin Abuse Reports of server/admin abuse will not be posted publicly. All reports concerning this type of behavior should be place in the appropriate sub-forum. http://forums.joinsquad.com/forum/241-report-server-admin-abuse/ All posts made outside of this area will be be removed.   Section II: Reporting & Moderation   §1 Reporting Posts
There is a Post Report system in place. If you notice a post that violates forum rules, simply use the exclamation mark icon below the users avatar image to send a report to the Moderation. We will then review this post. Your report will not be made public and cannot be linked to your person by anyone outside of the Squad Team. You will not be punished for using the Report system even if the report was false, unless you repeatedly abuse the system to spam it.
Do not ‘report’ posts by replying directly in public to them. In case of spambots, this prompts them to respond in turn, spamming the forum further. This also fuels flame wars and arguments.   §2 Reporting Moderators
Moderators are subject to the same forum rules (and some additional rules / exceptions). If you think that a Moderator has treated you unfairly or is otherwise breaking forum rules, please PM the Lead Moderator or any Administrator. Do not accuse Moderators in public, the Squad Team will treat every complaint seriously and it is in our interest to discipline or remove Moderators who are known to break forum rules.   §3 Respect Squad Team members and Moderators
Do not ignore or argue against Admin, Moderator or Dev instructions on the forum. If you have a complaint, as per §2, please inform the Team in private. You are expected to follow orders given by the Moderation, Administration and Development Team, and it is necessary for smooth running of the forum to respect their decisions. Being stubborn or ignoring warnings will lead to harsher punishments - however, we do not tolerate Moderator / Admin abuse of power / privileges, so do not hesitate to inform other Team members if you feel treated unfairly.   §4 Bans and multiple accounts
If your account is temporarily or permanently banned, do NOT create another account. Bypassing a ban will result in further action, and a permanent ban of all of your accounts.
You are not allowed to have more than one account for any reason. If you share an internet connection with another user who has their own account, it might happen that this account is incorrectly identified as a secondary account - please get in touch with the Moderation or Administration to resolve such issues.

  1. I know there is stat fps and that stuff, but I would like an easier way to see whether you are being cpu capped of capped by the gpu regarding the fps. I am thinking a new command that just displays maybe text "gpu" or "cpu" for the moment. Maybe also a % ratio average them between would be nice. I know there are game vs draw thread times but I feel it is somewhat complicated to actually know that you understand them correctly. I think an indicator like this would make it much easier for people to know whether they should buy a new cpu or a new gpu. I think it would be quite nice and easy to implement as well.
  2. gpu/cpu utilization questions

GTX 980, amdfx 6300 4ghz, 100 gig SSD with only squad on it, 8 gigs 1600 mhz I'm having an issue regarding utilization and usage of my cpu and gpu... so to start, if i go into fire range, change map to, really any of the maps... and spawn in, my gpu and vram usage is around 70-80%, cpu 50-60%, and 120 FPS on low settings.... and thats with nothing but the map and what not loaded in. when i join a multiplayer game, my gpu and vram usage from the point of joining the game, to the point of actually spawning in, is high, and fps is good.... but as soon as i spawn in, gpu and vram usage DECREASES and fps drops in the toilet.... My question is, shouldn't it be the opposite? Why is the game using less gpu/vram/cpu when actually playing, versus when in the spawn menu.... Shouldn't it be using more? and just to ad, while in multiplayer gpu/vram usage is around 10-15% sometimes lower.... but its using also nearly 7.1 gigs of RAM... and my fps tanks.... and even sometimes i can spawn in, and gpu/vram/cpu usage while be high and i will have great fps, only to go drop back down along with my FPS 10 minutes into the game.... is this hardware related? engine related? Settings? lack of optimization related(being alpha is expected)?
  3. Looked through my settings today and noticed that while my GPU usage was only 80% and CPU usage was at 35% my VRAM was maxed out. I have a 970 and know that using the full 4GB VRAM causes issues, so I wanted to get it under 3.5 GB. I had my 'optimized' settings with some high, some medium, some low, and most 'off', and when I turned it down to even the lowest settings on "Custom" my VRAM stayed pegged at 4GB and frames hovered at 40-50 even though it looked relatively awful. It was only when I used the "Low" preset that my VRAM more than halved down to 1.7 GB and my frames shot up to a steady 80-90 with a full 78 man server on Gorodok. Even though it looked the same (I wait until it re-renders on each change but effectively they are both the same settings) the frames nearly doubled. After testing out Medium and High I found that I can run the Epic preset with my little 970 and still hold roughly the same frames as my custom settings and the game looks FAR better. "High" looks alright but I kind of questioned when people called this game beautiful until I played Gorodok on Epic. It really does look amazing. There is a catch - if you want to run Low/Med/High/Epic preset you must run them as is. Changing any settings reverts it back to custom and can increase VRAM, which in my case causes issues. Despite dipping into the 30s and 40s occasionally, which still occurred on my lower custom settings, the game not only looked much better, but felt better and my shots landed more often (likely due to clarity of target). It may have been a placebo effect or simply due to no longer being at 4GB VRAM but I'll take it either way. Setup CPU : 4790k 4.00 GHz clock GPU : EVGA 970 SSC RAM : 16 GB Res: 2560x1080 Custom (All low/off or medium/high) : 35-50 frames on large maps, 45-60 on smaller maps Low : 80-90 on large maps (Gorodok only tested so far) Medium : 60-75 Gorodok High: 50-65 Gorodok, 65-75 Sumari Epic: 35-55 Gorodok, 60-70 Sumari Cliffs: If you are running "Custom" settings, monitor your VRAM and watch how it changes with the graphics presets. If you can live with things like motion blur, you will likely have a much better looking game at similar FPS. Alternatively you could gain some frames at a similar quality with medium or high presets. 970 owners use the presets only. This may be old news but I have about 300 hours in the game and haven't seen anything about it in any optimization topics. The benefits may be isolated but I still feel like it's useful to bring up. I would also like to poll those with GPUs that have more than 4GB VRAM to see where the ceiling is on "Custom" with all Epic and everything turned on and see how they change with presets. Some people have tested this and noticed no difference - but I can finally hold 60-70 frames on the smaller maps at the highest settings with just a 970. It may seem pretty simple.. "why didn't you just try it to begin with you derp" but I believe the default is High.. then I turned off preferences like Blur and Bloom, and it snowballed from there. I wanted to hold 60 before I realized it wasn't really possible on all maps.. and assumed I wouldn't be turning settings up to get the best experience before I found out about this custom settings issue.
  4. I need assistance with either finding a way to get more fps or instruction on over clocking my card! I have a intel core i7-6700k 4.00ghz 16GB ram 64bit operating system GTX Nvidia Geforce 950 gpu My chip is a GeForce GTX 950 My Monitor is a Dell ST2410(Digital) And in forest/woodland maps I get 30-40fps and in Desert maps I get 50-70fps but its really choppy! Any information, suggestions, and instructions for more fps or overclocking would be great! I use MSI afterburner but am willing to get any other software to help!
  5. Hello guys. I would like to upgrade my PC but I can go for one upgrade only. Which upgrade should I go for? I only care about having more fps in Squad. I play at 1080p. A CPU upgrade from i5 4690k to i7 7700k or a GPU upgrade from AMD R9 390 to GTX 1080? I wish I could do both hehe, but unfortunately thats not possible. Much appreciated!
  6. My specs are AMD FX-4100 (yes I know it's not enough) and GTX 960 2GB. When Squad loads up, everything's fine until I reach the main menu, where unless I turn on my 3 additional case fans, the videocard runs up to 70* and the load is basically full. This drops down to 50* once I'm in a server but it just seems strange that it would be at full load on a main menu.
  7. Hey guys. So I'm finally upgrading from my little GTX 750ti(you will be missed). and I'm planing on getting the GTX 1070. Now I've looked around and decided on it 100%... However there are about 15 different versions and I was wondering if anyone else has any advice. I have £400 to spend and am currently looking at; INNO3D GEFORCE GTX 1070 ICHILL AIR BOSS X3 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD from overclockers uk. So if you have any advice please share it . Or you can simply call me a scrub for using the 750ti . Thanks guys, Connor.
  8. Hi guys, I've received a lot of performance-related questions from my Counter Strike buddies who mostly use mid-level rigs and play CS just fine. I know a lot has been said about this topic, but since a picture is worth a thousand words, let's try it this way... System: CPU: Intel Core i5-2500 @ 3.3Ghz (4 cores) RAM: 16 GB Graphic card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 OC, 4GB - Display settings in NVidia Control Panel set to: "Best quality" - GPU overclocked to +26Mhz (to 1216/1279 Mhz) using Gigabyte OC Guru II HDD (Squad installation location): External Seagate 3TB, USB3 OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, Service pack 1 DirectX version: 11 Squad Performance: 90-100 FPS on the Firing range and 40-60 FPS on a full server (70 players) Graphics settings: (last row is missing, it didn't fit the screen: Effects details is also set to Epic) How it looks: Other stuff / interesting notes: - Moving the game (using SteamMover) from SATA HDD (500GB) to External USB3 drive makes the game load 3x-5x faster --- Wanna share yours?
  9. Hey guys, can you please share you specs if you are running this game at 60+ FPS and also the display resolution ? Also, please only post if you play starting from Medium performance, cuz otherwise the game looks like Mario. Thank you !!
  10. Looky Looky .... http://videocardz.com/59558/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-3dmark-benchmarks Scores about the same as an oc'd 980ti. I'd say this will be 15-25% faster clock for clock at 1440p. Very excited.
  11. Hey all, this post is to AMD users, it's for CPUs primarily, but also GPUs. Obviously I cannot guarantee that these fixes will work for everybody, but hopefully somebody is able to squeeze out at least a few more frames. In this post, I will give an exhaustive list of all my relevant specs, settings, tweaks, and software information in an effort to help AMD users get as much more performance as possible. First off; it IS possible for AMD CPU's to perform well with Squad! My current setup gets 50-60 FPS consistently with up to around 45 players on all maps. Even with smoke and heavy combat, I usually don't dip down lower than the high 30's-low 40's. This is with 1080p, Max Effects, max AA, 125% resolution scale, and max Post Processing, I can play with more than 45 players, but obviously performance suffers, but not too badly! I still get a consistent 35-40 FPS even with 60+ players and combat, but the lower dips in frames are longer and more frequent. While this isn't amazing, it beats the heck out of many of the horror stories I have been hearing. Some people with similar or even slightly better specs are saying that even on low population servers with lowest settings, they are barely able to get 30-35 FPS without even being in combat. If it is possible for me, then in principle, it is for others too, let's begin: (Thank you to Boxknife for the format of these specs). System: CPU: FX-8320 @4.6Ghz (CPU ratio is 23.0) GPU: Sapphire R9-390 Nitro 1100Mhz on the core (+100), 1500Mhz on the memory (default) Afterburner power use percent: +50% (Latest non-beta drivers) MB: Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 Bios version: 2501 x64 (04/07/2014) RAM: 8GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance @ 2133Mhz Timings: 11-11-11-28 (Voltage is auto) HDD: 1TB WD Black 7200 rpm Monitor: 1080p 60Hz Dell generic monitor. OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit with all current updates. (There are two hotfixes that Microsoft has put out for the FX series of chips that can help with some performance issues, I have applied both and I would recommend you do too.) These are free for anybody, but you have to request Microsoft send them to you manually via email, however the action is automated and takes a few seconds at most, no signup or weirdness required. If you feel fishy about that, I will link to a Tek Syndicate forum post that has both files linked for download automatically. I think they are safe, but obviously, download at your own risk. Well that was a bunch to type, hopefully not too many people got bored, but more importantly, hopefully this helps some of you fellow AMD users out there to get respectable, or even just playable performance out of your CPU's and GPU's! A big thanks to the readers/posters, and to the dev team for always keeping us in the loop and working on making our experience better every time! PS: I probably made a mistake or two somewhere here. If you find any obvious errors, feel free to message me. I will be going over this post with a fine toothed comb again within an hour or so, possibly making some edits. I may also add some other details. New Content: Special thanks to user, "A Pacifist" for posting this new thread. He posted some new audio tweaks that may help some more AMD users that are having frame issues. Check it out! New Stutter Fix For AMD Users Peace out everybody, ~Shadow
  12. Hello everyone, I have gotten the game maybe about a week ago and first off I loaded into the Firing Range. After enjoying myself and tweaking around with my graphic options, it began to smell a little bit funny, I started up SpeedFan and saw my GPU at 97°C! Shortly after I closed Squad, let my system cool off, shut it down to check if there was dust in the Fans and what not and even checked if the Fans were running in the first place. I then tweaked around with graphic options some more and I came to notice that the reason for this temperature increase is Post Processing. My GPU runs it well at ~83°C until I turn Post Processing even to just medium, it jumps to 90°C. I did not feel comfortable going above High where it hit 92°C and I just closed the game in fear of the VRAM just exploding. All that while the game runs like a dream at 80FPS. Is there any Hotfix to this? My Specs : R9 280X 3GB ( Sapphire Toxic version ) i5-6600k ( overclocked ) 16gb DDR4 A good airflow inside my PC, I could keep Brownies warm at the back exit!
  13. Nvidia Graphics Cards

As much as I want to get a shiny new GTX 980Ti, I've decided to wait for the next generation. Maxwell cards have been great (besides the 970 snafu) and I've been a Nvidia user since I switched from a ATI 4850. Anyways, is anyone else excited for Pascal? It seems like we finally get a die shrink from 28nm to 16nm. Woot! http://www.fudzilla.com/news/graphics/38304-nvidia-pascal-gpu-has-17-billion-transistors
  14. Please only weigh in if you are a more advanced user running some kind of monitoring software and have some decent pc know how..Would like this one to be short and sweet with no confusing opinions or data please
  15. So I was thinking about treating myself to a new GPU this Christmas and have my eye on a couple but cant decide which would be best to get Here are the options: - Asus GTX970 Strix or - Radeon R9-290 My current specs are a Radeon HD7750 GPU, FX-6300 Phenom CPU, 8GB RAM I'm aware that the 970 runs cooler and is less demanding on the PSU (around 400 watts I think) which is good because I only currently have a 550 watt PSU. From what iv'e heard Unreal 4 doesn't support AMD hardware particularly well which is probably why I get s**t performance at the moment and as a result is why I'm thinking of getting an Nvidia card this time around, but I'm wondering if compatibility will be an issue, although from what iv'e seen that shouldn't be the case. So thoughts gentlemen?
  16. ERROR GPU 1Gb - FIXED!

Hello, my problem: PC: CPU: Intel i5 - 2500 CPU: 3.30GHz GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTS 250 1G RAM: 8gb OS: Windows 10 ps: sorry, my english is bad.
  17. Hi there community tech support, so a few of you guys have been experiencing issues , its important that you have the latest drivers installed for your hardware even if your not having issues to keep things current For some who dont know there hardware For windows Open up "Device Manager" and select "Display Adapters" under here will be a list of hardware you have for graphics , sometime two for integrated switchable graphics on laptops. Once you have the hardware model and make your good to go Nvidia Hardware http://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx for Nvidia fill in the required fields AMD Hardware http://support.amd.com/en-us/download Select -Manually Select Your Driver (note driver 15.11.1 is the hotfix driver for 15.11 that had big issues) Intel Hardware https://downloadcenter.intel.com/fill in the required field in search downloads When ever i update drivers i do a clean install. I use a program called DDU , its fast safe and dose the best job removing drivers and supporting software (including registry keys, folders and files, driver store) http://www.guru3d.com/files-get/display-driver-uninstaller-download,20.htmlJust install then run program that's all guys see you next time :-)
  18. Can I run comfortably

Hi guys, really hyped for this game but seen some things about AMD issues. My rig is as follows. CPU: AMD FX 8350 GPU: GTX 970 4GB RES: 1920x1080p Anyone know/have the same and can tell me? Thanks in advance guys/gals. :)
  19. With my laptop, is seems like both the CPU and the RAM have some problems, but mostly the CPU. It's quite annoying since there seems to be almost NO difference with what type of settings i use. Going from Epic to Low, gives me only a small boost of 10-15 fps. Specs: GTX 960M Intel Core i5-4210H (2.90GHz) 8 GB RAM Windows 10 Average fps: Epic - 10-15 fps Low - 25-30 I know it's an alpha and there is a lot more to be done with performance. But my laptop "should" be quite capable to run this game on higher settings. Is there anyone else who have problems with graphic-settings have almost nothing to say for performance? :P
  20. So, we have the Unofficial SLI Configuration thread and it's worked for some people, but the scaling is pretty terrible The thought of true SLI and Crossfire support for Unreal Engine 4 and Squad is shared by many of us that have multi-GPU systems. Well, it looks like it's coming soon! At the VRX 2015 conference in San Francisco, Nvidia and Epic Games announced their partnership and laid out their plans for virtual reality (VR). This includes VR SLI support in Unreal Engine 4! Read about it here. So yes it focuses on VR, but I imagine old school SLI support is bound to make it's way to us soon too! I sure hope so!
  21. SQUAD is using only 40% of my CPU and GPU. It is causing me to get 30FPS average and it's basically a pain in the ass to play with such low framerates. Why is this happening? GPU: NVIDIA GTX 970 CPU: AMD FX 8320 RAM: 12GB Thanks!
  22. Hey guys, I'm fairly new to PC gaming and fairly recently bought a second hand rig. I've got two questions that I have googled and googled and only ended up crosseyed at the end. First, here are my current specs Intel Xeon W3530 2.8 ghz 8 gb DDR3 Radeon Sapphire 6950 2gb GPU I am currently using a small tv as a monitor but have been looking at getting the BenQ RL2455HM monitor. It seems like a good little monitor for 60hz and it's currently on sale where I live (About $220 Cdn.) I've read that if you're looking to buy a monitor for gaming, and specifically for FPS's, you should really be looking at 120 Hz or 144Hz. In those same articles they do say that anything over 60Hz isn't really going to do you any better if your GPU can only pump out 60fps (which is a stretch on most games for my poor little computer.) I do want to build my own unit from scratch, but that's not going to happen tomorrow. So, my questions are: Is the BenQ a decent monitor for my current setup? Would I (or even could I) be better of to upgrade my GPU without upgrading my CPU (the processor I currently have is an old socket type so my plan is to avoid putting that off til I can build an entire rig) and also get a 120Hz monitor? Sorry for all the new guy questions! I'll likely have more questions as others are answered!
