      Forum Rules   07/06/2016

Introduction   The Squad Team reserves the right to edit, update, add and remove rules at any time. Applicable rules extend to the PM system. Your PMs are private, but the Squad Team may be informed about unacceptable PM content by the receiving party.   Section I: Posting Rules   §1 Show Respect This community can only work if we all respect each other. To that end, it is imperative that any time you engage with another user, either directly or indirectly, you show them respect with the content of your post. In particular refrain from flaming, insulting, abusing, taunting, racism, and other similar types of actions towards other forum users.   §2 Attitude & Behavior Poor attitude and behavior are the most common ways a negative / unsafe environment is created and perpetuated. As such that kind of behavior will not be allowed on these forums. Please be mindful of this rule when posting personal positions and opinions regarding topics which could be considered contentious in nature. As a rule of thumb, keep your posts civil in nature, and refrain from making posts that are likely to incite arguments and create a negative environment. As a privately hosted web forum we reserve the right to maintain an environment that we are happy the majority of our players are comfortable with.   §3 Swearing While we will not strictly moderate every little swear that occurs, please try to avoid excessive bad language. The moderation reserves the right to remove rants and unsuitable content at any time.   §4 Illegal Topics
Prohibited topics include, but are not limited to: Piracy, drugs (including cannabis), pornography, religion, racism, sexism, homo/trans -phobic content, videos and images showing violent death or serious injury, ‘spam threads’, hacking & griefing (endorsement thereof), religion, politics,  etc. Prohibition may be suspended for some threads if they are found to be suitable by the Moderation (such as scientific debate).
If there is doubt, the Moderation Team can decide whether a topic is considered illegal.   §5 Attitude towards Squad and the Development Team
As per §1 and §2, keep in mind to be respectful and reasonable, not only towards all users of the forum, but also towards the Squad Team and towards any ideas and content and the game itself. Criticism is welcome, but if it is not constructive and/or if it is offensive, the Moderation may need to step in. Please refrain from posting if you are upset, angry or drunk, or you may be punished for things you wouldn’t have otherwise written, which is not in anyone's interest.   §6 Language & Legibility
Please post only in English. Non-English content (including non-legible content) may be removed. If you see someone posting in another language because s/he apparently does not speak English, please report their post - if you can, you may reply in their language to explain their question, but please do translate their and your message so it can be reviewed by the Moderation. ‘Hiding’ insults in non-English posts will be punished harshly. Posts written largely in ‘leetspeak’ or full of spelling / grammatical errors may be treated like non-English content. This rule does not extend to PMs.   §7 Forum structure & Search
Please ensure when posting a new thread, that the thread is located inside the correct forum section. Check all forum section titles to judge where your thread should belong. Threads created in the wrong forum section will be moved or deleted.
Before posting a new thread, please make use of the forum search to find older threads about the same topic. In doubt, it is recommended to rather post in an existing thread, unless that thread is years out of date. However, do not bump old threads without adding a new question / answer / insight that wasn’t in that thread before - use common sense.   §8 Thread Titles
Please name your thread appropriately; the subject title should sum up / explain the content in the thread. If you fail to name your thread properly (such as ‘Hey!’ or ‘Check this out!’ or ‘Help!’), we will either rename or lock the topic. Repeated offense may lead to infractions. The practice of using CAPITALS only in your thread title is not allowed and will be edited or the thread will simply be deleted. Strange or abnormal Unicode characters should be excluded from thread titles for the sake of being distracting and unnecessary.
      §9 Thread Capitalization
Please ensure that your post is not in all CAPITALS, as this is not allowed. Any threads posted in all caps will subsequently be removed from the forum. Repeated offenses may lead to infractions against your account. This practice is not approved or accepted here.
        §10 Images in posts
When posting images, mind the following restrictions:
.gifs will be allowed and may be removed by Staff if deemed necessary.
Maximum size for images is 1280x1024.
Do not include more than ~1 large image per paragraph of text, unless in image collection / announcement threads. Link to further images.
Consider posting thumbnails. You may post a few more images per post if they are reasonably small, the details are for the Moderation to judge.   §11 The use of BBCode
It is allowed to use the BBCode in your posts. Over usage is not allowed. You may use the Bold in a reasonable manner but not for the whole text body. You may use the size feature but in a limited reasonable manner. You may not use any of the additional fonts at all. Color may be used to high light a point but again, not for the whole text body. Moderators will be watching for misuse and will edit when required without giving notice. Continued disregard for this rule will result in Moderator action in the form of warnings.   §12 Complaints of Server/Admin Abuse Reports of server/admin abuse will not be posted publicly. All reports concerning this type of behavior should be place in the appropriate sub-forum. http://forums.joinsquad.com/forum/241-report-server-admin-abuse/ All posts made outside of this area will be be removed.   Section II: Reporting & Moderation   §1 Reporting Posts
There is a Post Report system in place. If you notice a post that violates forum rules, simply use the exclamation mark icon below the users avatar image to send a report to the Moderation. We will then review this post. Your report will not be made public and cannot be linked to your person by anyone outside of the Squad Team. You will not be punished for using the Report system even if the report was false, unless you repeatedly abuse the system to spam it.
Do not ‘report’ posts by replying directly in public to them. In case of spambots, this prompts them to respond in turn, spamming the forum further. This also fuels flame wars and arguments.   §2 Reporting Moderators
Moderators are subject to the same forum rules (and some additional rules / exceptions). If you think that a Moderator has treated you unfairly or is otherwise breaking forum rules, please PM the Lead Moderator or any Administrator. Do not accuse Moderators in public, the Squad Team will treat every complaint seriously and it is in our interest to discipline or remove Moderators who are known to break forum rules.   §3 Respect Squad Team members and Moderators
Do not ignore or argue against Admin, Moderator or Dev instructions on the forum. If you have a complaint, as per §2, please inform the Team in private. You are expected to follow orders given by the Moderation, Administration and Development Team, and it is necessary for smooth running of the forum to respect their decisions. Being stubborn or ignoring warnings will lead to harsher punishments - however, we do not tolerate Moderator / Admin abuse of power / privileges, so do not hesitate to inform other Team members if you feel treated unfairly.   §4 Bans and multiple accounts
If your account is temporarily or permanently banned, do NOT create another account. Bypassing a ban will result in further action, and a permanent ban of all of your accounts.
You are not allowed to have more than one account for any reason. If you share an internet connection with another user who has their own account, it might happen that this account is incorrectly identified as a secondary account - please get in touch with the Moderation or Administration to resolve such issues.

  1. FOV change

Does anyone know how to change the field of view faster than open settings and set it there every time? Maybe I can bind it?
  2. Hello, Me and my friend are playing on 55" monitors. So the 120° FOV is really appreciated, however it really bugs us when using scopes. It "seems" that it doesn't zoom, even if the zoom level is exactly the same as when using default FOV. What gives this impression, is the fact that the scope appears very tiny on the screen. And while it feels more immersive to not have a small FOV on a big 55" monitor, the "small scope circle", makes it very difficult to see what's being actually zoomed on with. Therefore, my suggestion, is to have an option that would enable automatic switching of FOV when scoping. Finally, this is already present in most other games with adjustable FOV that I am playing, as the scope fills the screen whatever FOV I'm in, when playing battlefield. I could understand that it could be see as cheating at it's providing possibly a better understanding of the suroundings, however trust me, it's very uncomfortable to play/run with a small FOV with such monitor, and also very incomfortable to scope with large FOV as the scope's circle becomes very tiny. Sincerely,
  3. The ability to bind keys to change FOV instantly would be ns for people using optic rifles. For instance, 100 FOV for engagement within 200m, and 90 beyond, so that you can get adequate situational awareness while taking advantage of enhanced zoom(90 FOV is painful for indoor fighting using optic rifles). If for some reason this mechanic is difficult to implement, then at least allow different FOV settings for ADS stance.
  4. ADS FOV Slider

Will there be one? I'd like to setup my game to look realistic.
  5. 20x Scope with Acog

Now i ll walk about the FOV slider and changing the FOV value from the .ini file. I dont know it is a bug or something but if you change the value of the FOV from the .ini file ( i mean below 90 which is the minimal value of the fov slider) and then you go for a rifle with an acog, your scope will make a more zoom then usual. Maybe it is more than 20x but the view is very clear and it act like a 20x scope... You can kill very easy from far far away. My question is changing the values of the .ini files ll be locked or the advantages of changing it ll be continue? (i can add photos if you guys want) Cheers all
  6. The minimum field of field 90 is way too large. The aliasing is so bad in this game that with that FOV, I cant see any enemies with iron sights with my 24 inch monitor. Before the last patch they allowed 80 fov, why the h*** is it disabled? Is there a way to enable it again?
  7. Make the test by yourself : with a FOV of 90, I get 47 fps at Fool's Road spawn. With 120 FOV, I get 49 FPS. What the f*** ? How is this possible ? Is there optimisations possible with lower FOV ? I mean, in every other FPS i've played, increasing the FOV has always lowered my FPS, which seems logical, with more objects displayed on the screen.
  8. Just another FOV post.

Let me start off by mentioning that i have only been playing Squad for the last two to three weeks. That being, said I've seen old posts about FOV settings and people who abused it to spot E.I. more effectively. Well seeing how my computer is hooked up to my entertainment center and a 46 inch TV that I sit 8-9 feet away from, a minimum FOV setting of 90 is just simply too high. And I know I'm not the only one who is having trouble spotting enemy infantry from a distance of 100m or more. I find myself consistently leaning over my coffee table as far as i can to see downrange. Also you'd think you would be able to see the muzzle flash of an AK or an M4 from beyond 50m but it's neigh impossible for me to distinguish the flash (or gas leaving the barrel) from the impact of a round. From what I've gathered on the forums so far, adjusting the FOV settings in the .ini file will result in a kick from every server. (I haven't tested this out myself yet.) Also I haven't read anything that says changing this setting will result in a ban or anything like that. But I'm curious to read about what other people think. Bear in mind that I haven't played Squad that long, and ever since i started the minimum FOV setting is 90.
  9. Found an FOV issue with the new scope FX, related to your FOV setting. The new Dark overlay they added doesn't align properly to the scope on anything other than a 90 degree FOV setting. FOV values VS effect in links 90 FOV 100 FOV 110 FOV
  10. Ever since yall got rid of the 80 fov option, it's been a real b--- to use the m16 and some of the Kalashnikov sights. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't a huge fan of running around at 80 fov, but you could see down the sights reasonably well, now at 90 not only does it give the americans a huge advantage with their aimpoints, but it also is very hard to aim at range on a smaller monitor. I would love to play all the time on a large TV, but unfortunetly I can't, and when I switch to my 23" monitor, it's very difficult to sight up at range on the ironsights, expecialy the M4 and M16 irons, which have the peep sight ring. Don't get me wrong, it's actually kinda cool that you don't zoom in automaticly when you bring up your weapons sights, expecialy in a game where you often need to move with them raised (also cool), but in real life, well, sh-- is a lot bigger, and like I said, I just can't play all the time on my TV. I can't be the only one out there that still has a standard computer monitor for gaming, and even at a larger size than 23", it would still be a b--- to use the ring sights or the ak's, at the 90 slider, expecialy with all the alising that the game has at this stage (even with AA maxed out). If we could get a seperate slider to compensate for this, something that allows a minor adjustment to the FOV when the weaponsights are brought up, I think that would not only make the game much less frustraiting but it would even out the playing field in a lot of ways, till the other teams get aimpoints as well (you know you want to do that... common... we all want it...). Nothing major, just a bump that brings the fov to say 80 when your sighted up, and of course, leaving it as a seperate slider* would cover those who do play on their big ass TV's. *Plus, sliders are cool, just one more reason... infact, the only thing cooler than a slider is a dolly, you should make it a dolly, nevermind the slider, FOV dolly.
  11. Fields of view

Can i return a FOV value back to the 80?This is much more convenient than the 90.
  12. Pixels Pixels and more Pixels

So i am really having a troubling time seeing anything besides pixels at about 200m out without having to zoom in... even at FOV of 85 the targets in question seem to be about double the actual distance away then they really are... i mean i know you shouldn't be able to shoot people at about 400m out with iron sights and hit them every single time but atm even using a 42" flat screen with 85 as FOV it looks like im trying to hit dots that might as well be 600meters away with ironsights but they are just under 200meters while some people may approve of this from those i have talked to in and out of game the general consensus is that you can't really make out anything passed 150 meters without having to zoom in constantly (holding shift, using scopes, bla bla bla) This is a giant issue considering you want a realistic style of game play. because atm most engagements happen in game about 100m (which iirc is almost CQC) which encourages run and gun style tactics instead of those we are accustomed to in PR. Side note: Even if i do zoom in it's still hard to pixel hunt a target that seems like he is 400m away instead of 150m away (again there's really no way for me to show the difference unless say i took a picture with my phone (because not everyone is going to have this issue with different monitor sizes and different game set ups) this really wasn't an issue in PR i know alot of people didn't feel like it was natural to them but for me on MY set up the FOV was more natural and distances felt that way.
  13. Gun Position

I find the gun on screen is not zoomed out enough. Which can induce motion sickness. http://i.imgur.com/eQKmBI5.jpg I'm not sure what is more realistic, but I'd like to remind of this image http://i.imgur.com/HRVj1e0.jpg What is the gun/hand position based off? Are third person and first person model the same?
  14. FOV-Settings

Which field of view settings do you think are the best?
  15. As title says, does changing your FOV from default affect the zeroing and rangefinding on the scopes that use chevrons / mildots? Could not find results with search.
  16. FOV needs a change

As it is now, we got a very low fov and its even fisheyed(things are closer to you at each side of the screen than in the middle) An option to change it in files or a FOV slider in option would be nice :) Is this somehting being worked on ? (i know ther is a "workaround" on the forums, but it dosnt work propperly)
  17. What is FOV DLC ?

Hi can you explain this ? @https://twitter.com/JoinSquad/status/653634416615497728 We have to pay to get more FOV ?? The game is still in Alpha and there is DLC yet !!! (even for US$3.50) A misunderstood or what ?
  18. Will there be FoV options in the future? Just asking because i would love to have the ability to change the FoV of my vision and weapon model!
  19. Viewdistance And Fog

Guys, I wanted to know what the devs and other players think the viewdistance should be. One of the things I don't like about the BF2 engine is that its viewdistances are not very far (I know it is an engine limitation and PR already pushes that to the limit) but it is still far from what we see in games like Arma 3 or Battlefield 3/4 where when you are in a plane you always see the ground and buildings no matter how high you are. In BF2 the ground dissapears in a mist of fog when you go high and that sucks and is unrealistic as in real life at those altitudes you still see the ground and can use that to georeferenciate. Fog hiding objects in the distance is very old school these days, and of course all engines use techniques to hide resource consuming details/objects in the distance but the ground and important assets are always drawn in modern engines no matter how far you are and in the Squad alpha Gameplay videos I can see that there is NO fog... I just loved to see that! Of course that could be the "no scopes" yet fooling me too... So my second question is... is the Squad team planning on doing something like Arma 3/ Battlefield 3/4 in terms of viewdistance for airplanes or you will have to use those uggly work arrounds like the fog the BF2 engine uses? (I know now you use the unreal engine so BF2 Engine limitations should not apply here but I haven't yet seen any Jet game on the Unreal Engine so I don't know how well it will handle the view at 3.000 meters high for example.
