      Forum Rules   07/06/2016

Introduction   The Squad Team reserves the right to edit, update, add and remove rules at any time. Applicable rules extend to the PM system. Your PMs are private, but the Squad Team may be informed about unacceptable PM content by the receiving party.   Section I: Posting Rules   §1 Show Respect This community can only work if we all respect each other. To that end, it is imperative that any time you engage with another user, either directly or indirectly, you show them respect with the content of your post. In particular refrain from flaming, insulting, abusing, taunting, racism, and other similar types of actions towards other forum users.   §2 Attitude & Behavior Poor attitude and behavior are the most common ways a negative / unsafe environment is created and perpetuated. As such that kind of behavior will not be allowed on these forums. Please be mindful of this rule when posting personal positions and opinions regarding topics which could be considered contentious in nature. As a rule of thumb, keep your posts civil in nature, and refrain from making posts that are likely to incite arguments and create a negative environment. As a privately hosted web forum we reserve the right to maintain an environment that we are happy the majority of our players are comfortable with.   §3 Swearing While we will not strictly moderate every little swear that occurs, please try to avoid excessive bad language. The moderation reserves the right to remove rants and unsuitable content at any time.   §4 Illegal Topics
Prohibited topics include, but are not limited to: Piracy, drugs (including cannabis), pornography, religion, racism, sexism, homo/trans -phobic content, videos and images showing violent death or serious injury, ‘spam threads’, hacking & griefing (endorsement thereof), religion, politics,  etc. Prohibition may be suspended for some threads if they are found to be suitable by the Moderation (such as scientific debate).
If there is doubt, the Moderation Team can decide whether a topic is considered illegal.   §5 Attitude towards Squad and the Development Team
As per §1 and §2, keep in mind to be respectful and reasonable, not only towards all users of the forum, but also towards the Squad Team and towards any ideas and content and the game itself. Criticism is welcome, but if it is not constructive and/or if it is offensive, the Moderation may need to step in. Please refrain from posting if you are upset, angry or drunk, or you may be punished for things you wouldn’t have otherwise written, which is not in anyone's interest.   §6 Language & Legibility
Please post only in English. Non-English content (including non-legible content) may be removed. If you see someone posting in another language because s/he apparently does not speak English, please report their post - if you can, you may reply in their language to explain their question, but please do translate their and your message so it can be reviewed by the Moderation. ‘Hiding’ insults in non-English posts will be punished harshly. Posts written largely in ‘leetspeak’ or full of spelling / grammatical errors may be treated like non-English content. This rule does not extend to PMs.   §7 Forum structure & Search
Please ensure when posting a new thread, that the thread is located inside the correct forum section. Check all forum section titles to judge where your thread should belong. Threads created in the wrong forum section will be moved or deleted.
Before posting a new thread, please make use of the forum search to find older threads about the same topic. In doubt, it is recommended to rather post in an existing thread, unless that thread is years out of date. However, do not bump old threads without adding a new question / answer / insight that wasn’t in that thread before - use common sense.   §8 Thread Titles
Please name your thread appropriately; the subject title should sum up / explain the content in the thread. If you fail to name your thread properly (such as ‘Hey!’ or ‘Check this out!’ or ‘Help!’), we will either rename or lock the topic. Repeated offense may lead to infractions. The practice of using CAPITALS only in your thread title is not allowed and will be edited or the thread will simply be deleted. Strange or abnormal Unicode characters should be excluded from thread titles for the sake of being distracting and unnecessary.
      §9 Thread Capitalization
Please ensure that your post is not in all CAPITALS, as this is not allowed. Any threads posted in all caps will subsequently be removed from the forum. Repeated offenses may lead to infractions against your account. This practice is not approved or accepted here.
        §10 Images in posts
When posting images, mind the following restrictions:
.gifs will be allowed and may be removed by Staff if deemed necessary.
Maximum size for images is 1280x1024.
Do not include more than ~1 large image per paragraph of text, unless in image collection / announcement threads. Link to further images.
Consider posting thumbnails. You may post a few more images per post if they are reasonably small, the details are for the Moderation to judge.   §11 The use of BBCode
It is allowed to use the BBCode in your posts. Over usage is not allowed. You may use the Bold in a reasonable manner but not for the whole text body. You may use the size feature but in a limited reasonable manner. You may not use any of the additional fonts at all. Color may be used to high light a point but again, not for the whole text body. Moderators will be watching for misuse and will edit when required without giving notice. Continued disregard for this rule will result in Moderator action in the form of warnings.   §12 Complaints of Server/Admin Abuse Reports of server/admin abuse will not be posted publicly. All reports concerning this type of behavior should be place in the appropriate sub-forum. http://forums.joinsquad.com/forum/241-report-server-admin-abuse/ All posts made outside of this area will be be removed.   Section II: Reporting & Moderation   §1 Reporting Posts
There is a Post Report system in place. If you notice a post that violates forum rules, simply use the exclamation mark icon below the users avatar image to send a report to the Moderation. We will then review this post. Your report will not be made public and cannot be linked to your person by anyone outside of the Squad Team. You will not be punished for using the Report system even if the report was false, unless you repeatedly abuse the system to spam it.
Do not ‘report’ posts by replying directly in public to them. In case of spambots, this prompts them to respond in turn, spamming the forum further. This also fuels flame wars and arguments.   §2 Reporting Moderators
Moderators are subject to the same forum rules (and some additional rules / exceptions). If you think that a Moderator has treated you unfairly or is otherwise breaking forum rules, please PM the Lead Moderator or any Administrator. Do not accuse Moderators in public, the Squad Team will treat every complaint seriously and it is in our interest to discipline or remove Moderators who are known to break forum rules.   §3 Respect Squad Team members and Moderators
Do not ignore or argue against Admin, Moderator or Dev instructions on the forum. If you have a complaint, as per §2, please inform the Team in private. You are expected to follow orders given by the Moderation, Administration and Development Team, and it is necessary for smooth running of the forum to respect their decisions. Being stubborn or ignoring warnings will lead to harsher punishments - however, we do not tolerate Moderator / Admin abuse of power / privileges, so do not hesitate to inform other Team members if you feel treated unfairly.   §4 Bans and multiple accounts
If your account is temporarily or permanently banned, do NOT create another account. Bypassing a ban will result in further action, and a permanent ban of all of your accounts.
You are not allowed to have more than one account for any reason. If you share an internet connection with another user who has their own account, it might happen that this account is incorrectly identified as a secondary account - please get in touch with the Moderation or Administration to resolve such issues.

  1. There are often times when the COMS can become cluttered, even when making attempts to adjust volume in channel sliders. This occurs when communications flood *ALL* channels at the same time. This is additionally challenging for those attempting to SL for the 1st time. Below is an attempt to allow options in settings for assigned channels by ear. The default will remain *BOTH EARS, unless changed by user. Additionally, it suggest volume program changes to channels based on Priority Override. The volume sliders will retain option for user adjustments. WORKING EXAMPLE Channel Sound Level % Ear Assignment (default = both) Priority (HARD-CODED) for SL Commander keep adjustable slider volume 150 Left Right Both* P1 Auto mute/reduce P2, P3 when active Squad keep adjustable slider volume 100 Left Right Both* P2 Auto mute/reduce P3 when active Local keep adjustable slider volume 60 N/A N/A Both* P3 N/A
  2. The old bug is still prevalent where your radio gets stuck on sometimes. I think this is a far more common occurrence if you set your mouse thumb buttons to radio chat. Can this please get fixed? Maybe this has something to do with interacting with UI while using the radio like bringing up your map or deployment menu?
  3. Make. This. Happen. Radio is a tool to communicate with others and organize who does what. Period. For everything else, you have the local voice chat. But a lot of people think the radio is just a ingame voice chat instead of using Discord, TeamSpeak or whatever. And even worse than that is Squad Leaders who use the G (general SL frequency) instead of directly talking to another SL (using numpad 1 to 9) about specific things or to chitchat. The main ideia here is not to impose a way about how people play the game, but to offer the option to hardcore players not to have to endure this kind of disruptive behaviour. Countless times I have died while doing an incursion because I couldn't here the enemy over the noise pollution, resorting to muting the command or squad leader channel for the entire match - 'cause I won't be openning the menu every time to turn it on and off again. Like in real life, the soldier would have the option to just remove the earphones. After the incursion is complete, plug the earphones again, since people talk more than my grandmom and her friends at the bingo.
  4. I was thinking after squad leading the other day that a nice optional function would be when keying the mic to talk to other squad leaders would be to have the volume drop for the environment and the other radio channels while cross talking to other squad leaders. I often have this battle of having to try and shut out all other sounds that sometime completely trample over the coms of the other SLs. I've messed with sound level options for each of the channels but i never really get a great balance when it comes to using the command channel. I often have this battle in my head trying to figure out what should be more important, local voice loudest, squad set loudest, or have the command channel up the highest. I was thinking you could have a fourth slider under sound to adjust a percentage in volume reduction for voice communication rather than the whole environment to further the idea. A reduction in volume would really help boost communication with a bonus to gameplay especially when having to jump language barriers. As a bonus I think this idea would fit really nice with the new animations when talking with other SLs and the hand raising to the ear while using the command channel. I don't think this would detract to much from realism but would instead boost game play by allowing a clear communication across squads. What do you think?
  5. Suggestions for Owi

Recommendation: Analyze this suggestion from a more holistic perspective. (Updated) I believe I may have a solution that would optimize the game a bit further and would definitely be more enjoyable for everyone. A) Multiple Spawn Areas: Preferably three(varies on maps & game-modes) - I suggest having an Optional: Aerial-Support base being able to be destroyed, disabled or Capturable. Main base: logistics, transport For: Squad leaders, Infantry Offensive Vehicle Base = t72, stryker, 30mm For: Crewman Kit, Engineer kit Aerial-support main-base = helicopter, drones, air-strikes. For: Commander roles, and Helicopter Pilot roles. B) Settings/System Requirements: I believe that very few actually use the motion blur so I think we should remove that and the low settings while keeping only the medium to epic settings. I also believe that we should update Requirements by replacing the "Minimum Requirement" with our current "Recommended Requirement'. Settings: Remove All Low settings and Cinematic Shadow = Medium, High, and Epic only. Remove: Distance Shadow Foliage = Medium, High, and Epic only. Remove: All Low Settings System Requirements: Ram Must be: 16gb Ram or higher GPU Must be: GTX 970 or higher CPU Must be: i5-2550k or higher C) Game-play: Ticket bleed changes Troops: Commanders cost = 8 ticket bleed Squad Leaders cost = 4 tickets bleed Normal Infantry cost = 1 ticket bleed Vehicles: Logistics, Transport cost = 15 tickets bleed Small artillery Vics cost = 20 tickets bleed Medium artillery Vics cost = 25 ticket bleed Heavy Battle Tanks cost = 30 tickets bleed Aerial(Helicopter) cost = 30 tickets bleed Deployable/Flags: Radios cost = 30 tickets bleed Captured objectives = 40 tickets bleed I would love to hear some feedback from the community as well, let me know what you think about these suggestions. Will you guys enjoy this more, will it be worse, and please be specific as to why you would disagree/agree. Thanks.
  6. I've played a lot of V12 during the last weekend and I like the new features like RAAS and the tanks but some of the new stuff turns out to be really annoying and should never have been implemented in this game. Calling out enemy positions in Squad channel is sometimes quite tough sometimes depending on your location as you always have to find spots you can refer to. This can be hard at times but is something that you can definitely learn and improve by just playing the game for longer than 2 hours. This new kind of ping marker for everyone takes away a huge amount of the game's most important thing - Communication. It just results in players saying things like "enemys / FOB on my ping" and makes the game even more casual and accessible by reducing the overall learning curve, which wasn't really necessary. In general the new UI changes are unneccessary and just too much, the map gives too much information now, like FOB circles, FOB supply point stats and more which destroys the immersion at least partially. Leave those things to the players! Let them talk! The only good thing I see about that is, that the Squadleaders role gets a little relieved by that. But the Squadleader role was always stressful and that's something you should be able to live with and also something that you can improve by doing it more often. Squad is already accessible enough, it just looks like the devs are desperatly trying to acquire more potential buyers by making those kind of changes, but this ruins the game for those who love the game for what it does best - Teamplay & Communication!

DISCLAIMER: YOU MAY JOIN FROM ANY REGION AS LONG AS YOU CAN ATTEND MANDATORY GAME NIGHTS I and a buddy of mine are looking to start a competitive group of like minded individuals. Our vision is to utilize TEAMWORK, COMMUNICATION, and COMPETITIVENESS. We are looking for people to start a group with, We are only two men as of right now but are wanting to build and create something new. I have been in several clans and groups and one trend I see is that most clans or groups will not take constructive criticism! I aim to change that. I want a group of like minded individuals who are willing to be a part of something greater than themselves. I have a discord and would love to get people in there to talk and figure out if this is a fit for you. I want you to HAVE A VOICE within our group, without disobeying chain of command. You will be able to state your opinion and let us take into consideration your thoughts! This is NOT a HARDCORE group, although we do play with a serious and competitive manner, we do NOT have BS practices or anything of that nature, we will simply debrief after each night of play and learn from our mistakes and improve on the mistakes and see what we did well on and see what we can do even better when we succeed. In conclusion if you want to get a way from the casual gameplay or leave the toxic community you are in you are welcome to come and see if you are a fit for the RAIDERS OF RAGNAROK. 9. Each of the vehicles in this game whose real world equivalents have turn signals and horns, technical are the first to come to my mind, need to have turn signals and horns control settings. You are more able to communicate with your fellow team members. This game is really missing out! Thank you, and I stand by my thoughts and decision to advocate this assertion.
  10. Hello! My idea is still very general, so this post is mainly for brainstorming. I think the way that squad leads interact through voice with their squads should be reworked. I love squad leading, it is very rewarding to lead a team to victory. Sometimes though it seems as though I can’t even hear myself think. My answer to the problem of “congested” comms is fireteams. An SL would be able to offer the role of fireteam lead to squad members for up to 3 fireteams. SL’s would be able to talk to the fire team leads and coordinate certain attacks depending on squad comp. the idea is that the whole squad doesn’t need to hear me say that I need my two man armor to move further east. Or asking my marksmen if my mortars are hitting at the correct location. This frees up squad comms therefore having the SL only talk to other SL’s and their own squad’s fireteam leads. Just inagine: Your squad leading and you have three fireteams. Alpha, bravo and Charlie. Charlie consists of two riflemen/crewman operating armor for close fire support and transport of your squad. Alpha team is your medics, your AT, your LMG, and other riflemen. Bravo is your scout team, a marksman and a automatic rifleman (or scout class depending on faction). You take alpha into OBJ and set up frontline defenses. Your armor is ready to assist, and marksmen scouting ahead for incoming enemies. Everything is organized and everyone can tell you what they need and when they need it. As as a side note: I think a commander should also be implemented, this would be difficult to do though, because in real life a commander would be adept at commanding, I think that is a whole other concept than this and would require another thread.
  11. It is inevitable, now that the game has just been released as Early Access on Steam and the increase in advertising and media coverage via YouTubers, that new and young gamers join the field with little to no tactical and strategic gaming experience. This can quickly become irritating to the more mature members (roughly 17+) who wish to play the game as intended - incorporating communication and teamwork, instead of individuals playing a 'Call of Duty' styled run-and-gun. On top of this, (without being offensive) younger players very often ruin games and their immersion with typically high-pitched voices and immature behaviour. This thread is asking how maturer players can handle this and as communication and teamwork is of extreme importance in Squad, how the developers and community are planning to adapt and handle this. Thank you.
  12. While no free weekend is active, how consistent is the communication? In other words, how often do you join a game and encounter people who communicate vs. people who are dead silent?
  13. New Class: Radio Bearer

Idea: A role a squad member fills where the idea is that your squad cannot use squad coms and your squad leader cannot use coms to talk to other leaders if the radio operator isn’t alive/ in the game. Local chat would still work. The radio bearer would have the standard rifleman loadout with the only difference being that he has a large radio strapped to his back. Why: Communication is a vital part of conducting warfare and anyone who has played Squad knows how important it is to be able to tell your team that there is an enemy at Grid___ with a bunch of his friends or that you have found an enemy HAB. When in direct combat with the enemy, it is extremely useful to be able to point out enemy firing positions, request medical assistance, call in reinforcements etc.. but radios have their limits. The inspiration for this comes from the book The Trident: The Forging and Reforging of a Navy SEAL Leader by Jason Redman. In it he describes a mission he was on where he was tasked with sitting on top of a mountain with a large radio which provided a link between a small unit on one side of the mountain and a command element on the other side. The small unit comes under fire and Redman wants to go help them. He takes the radio and heads down towards the unit in contact. This creates all types of problems as now the command element has no idea what is going on with the small unit because they have lost radio communication, the small unit cannot call in an air mission, and the entire Seal team misses their extraction and is required to spend the night out in the mountains all because communications had been lost. I think that the scenario of being a squad leader, coming under fire from the enemy, having your radio bearer die, losing coms while he/ she re-spawns, and having to manage a defense or retreat though local coms would prove a fun and challenging leadership hurdle among other opportunities and drawbacks that come with being able to effect communication on the battlefield. Thanks for taking the time to read though this Masters thesis and please let me know what you thing.
  14. Hey all, wanted to get your thoughts on how or if you even want improvements to communicating between squads. I personally think the map is being under utilized. What about allowing other squads to see your attack, move, defend markers? Make them blue and add the squad number in the corner. Might just be enough to help communication and coordination between SLs.
  15. While Squad leading i can bring up map while on the move but when i right click to place a mark it stops me dead in my tracks while im holding W key still,i then have to let go of it and re hit W again to begin moving. Same thing goes to communication when i am talking to my boys in squad channel and i right click to place move order or map mark it disengages and i find myself talking to no one as the mic cut out halfway through what i was saying. i dont remember this happening as much before latest patches or maybe im crazy but can this be fixed. really my only pet peeve right now
  16. Would it be possible to create another map that is editable off of another keystroke visible only to the squad if they hit that same key. What I mean is time and time again either someone is new to the area, map or is getting bombarded with communication they can't get plan across. It would help to Have the ability to draw with a pen like tool(not just arrows icons), with basic color(s), something simple, that has icons like the larger map specific to just attack and defend icons for the squad. This would allow quick drawings of plans of attack, especially approach of attack. For example, I could pull up my squad map, draw a straight line to the objective but include a curve around the backside of a point of interest allowing a last minute flank. This would let everyone know exactly what the squad leader was saying and is accessible at all times for reference from those who enter the game, or become lost during the chaos. Thanks!

  18. TL;DR These ideas of mine are ambitions and push the envelope in what is possible and ultimately I think could really make this game great and separate it from other games out there even further. I dislike the idea of adding too much game play that is focused around explosions and or gun fire (although that is inevitable and will come) I was thinking of new ways to incorporate game play that does not have gun fire and explosions at the center of it's game play. So I came up with the new class: THE INFILTRATOR. The new class the infiltrator provides a very interesting game play style that uses the communication system in this game as part of the game play adding something special and unique to squad ultimately allowing the player to hack enemy communications for intel or disruption via FOB radios, rally points, and abandoned vehicles. Along with that the infiltrator will also be able to capture enemy players with a sneak attack from behind, allowing for interrogation, communication hack and if friendlies are close by to assist in detaining the enemy for capture, and an escort mission will be allowed back to friendly base to capture enemy player as a prisoner for interrogation and other purposes. Important to note that the infiltrator will have only a silenced pistol as his main weapon and no shovel. Squad leader has ability to build new building: THE PRISON CELL where prisoners are kept for interrogation and further dealings. All of this provides a really unique and real element to squad that is similar to how it is on the battlefield and also incorporating that element of non fire and explosive game play. I love this game and was compelled to share my 2 cents on how to make this game great. If you have any questions, ideas, or improvements to my ideas or want to be part of the discussion feel free to post but please read my entire post if you plan to post something thank you! Brief introductions, I usually tend to Play as Squad Leader and I have over 300 hours on this game, not like any of that matters, but hopefully it gives you a good perspective and shows that I genuinely want to help make the game better with these suggestions. I am mainly looking to strike a discussion with other passionate squad players and hopefully some devs about my ideas to ultimately make this game great! Let's get right into it NEW CLASS: THE INFILTRATOR Concept: Spy This class will be designed to INFILTRATE enemy FOB positions, rally points, and abandoned vehicles for hacking into the enemies communications systems and also to sneak behind and capture enemy soldiers for communication hacking, interrogation and prisoner capture. Only 2 infiltrators are allowed per team, the first infiltrator slot will become available at a team size of 25 players, and the second slot becoming available at 30 players. I will go into further detail in the mechanics, meta, and balance of this class below. The Infiltrators kit will consist of a silenced pistol as a primary weapon, ,3 smoke grenades, 2 bandages, a communications hacking system of some sort, and binoculars. They will have a unique perk that allows their foot steps to be less loud. This hacking system would be the Infiltrators main ability - If an infiltrator is next to an enemy fob radio position, the infiltrator can hack into enemy communication systems and hear the communication channels of squad leader chat (potentially other enemy channels as well). If dev team allowed to hear all enemy channels, it would sound like a clutter mess and would create balance of power, as the infiltrator would have to deceiver a message from the chaos of listening to the entire enemy team at once and would then have to form an intelligent message to inform his team about his findings from the hacking. But hearing all the channels could be annoying as well, I'm sure a balance could be found here. Hacking communications systems from a fob radio would allow for interesting Intel, game play, and strategy. Example of possible game play strategy: Friendly squad members should be quiet while infiltrator is hacking communications so he can accurately decode a message. Naturally when an infiltrator is within 5 meters of a enemy fob radio, all spawns on that fob will increase by 30 seconds for all enemy players. (these number could be played with for balance purposes I think 25-30 seconds give the infiltrator enough time to deceiver a message and then move positions if need be, maybe more time is needed who knows.) Further speculation on this idea could allow the infiltrator to actually communicate to the other enemy squad leaders, POSING as one of the squad leaders giving them bad intel or confusing them or even bringing down certain communication channels for awhile! But be careful- if they are on to you, your location could be compromised and they will know you are on their radio! NOTE* The infiltrator will NOT have a shovel as part of their tool kit, balancing this class so that they will only be able to HACK enemy fobs not destroy them. Plus only armed with his silenced pistol, his role is about being sneaky and not engaging directly with the enemy, only engaging in close quarters or when he has a more favorable/opportune scenario. Rally Point Infiltration - If the infiltrator is next to an enemy rally point, he will be allowed to hack the communications systems of that enemy squad, listening, or potentially bringing down their coms for a certain/short period of time if certain requirements are met. *REQUIREMENT EXAMPLE TO BRING DOWN ENEMY SQUAD COMs: Infiltrator is on enemy rally point, in order to bring down enemy coms for 2 min your squad leader has to be within 5 meters of you. NOTE* rally point will not disappear so long as the infiltrator is within 5 meters of the enemy rally. More importantly the enemy rally point will have its spawn timer increased for all enemy squad members but will still be spawnable just with an increased timer. Enemy vehicle infiltration - If the infiltrator is next to an enemy vehicle that is abandoned, he is able to hack their communications and listen to enemy squad leader chat which ever squad owned that vehicle. If a friendly squad leader is on the infiltrator's position, the infiltrator is allowed to bring down enemy squad leader chat from 2 min. If the infiltrator hacks an abandoned logi truck with supplies in it, he can destroy the supplies without destroying the truck. SPECIAL NOTE: People have already tried to find issues with this idea, some are suggesting that everyone would just use discord or something, Not likely on public servers, For a more competitive and organized situation I could see this happening, but for the most part people are genuine in this game and you can have server rules that require you to not use external voice chat programs and if the rules weren't followed you could ban them. Further more you could develop this idea so that if a successful communication infiltration has happened you would take 3 tickets away from the enemy and even potentially reviling enemy positions on the map for a brief period. As you can see there are many alternatives and ways to get around this problem and I have only just named a few. NEW UNIQUE ABILITIES: CHOKE HOLD/INTERROGATE/CAPTURE PRISONER The infiltrator will also be able to sneak up behind enemies and perform a CHOKE HOLD that renders the enemy player useless for 30 seconds. During this time period the infiltrator's movement speed is reduced significantly *SO BECAREFUL WHERE YOU CATCH SOMEONE* In this small time window the infiltrator can speak with the enemy player by using proximity chat, listen to that soldier's squad chat, and speak for him if desired to potentially confuse the squad. After which, the enemy player will be released, waking up on the floor disoriented with low stamina and reduced movement speed to 50% for 5 seconds, and their communication to squad members will be offline for 30 seconds. Careful to not alert the enemy squad that you have hacked one of their squad members if you decide to talk with them. Imagine if you caught the enemy squad leader, tried to mimic his voice and told his squad to move into a compromised position, but just being able to listen to what the squad is saying is powerful in of itself. Game play example: If the infiltrator is sly, he can get the enemy squad members to reveal their position, especially if they are already under fire and confused from battle. This is also very realistic as during your choke hold you could be grabbing the solders radio in real life mimicking his voice. Now people who use the voicechat cleverly are rewarded. *KEEP IN MIND that these abilities could eventually be given to all the classes, manly the choke hold, but I think it could be over used, since there are only 2 infiltrators per team in this scenario it wouldn't happen that much keeping it balanced but fair enough that smart infiltrators could capture enemies who were venerable from low stamina, or are wandering alone…. Oooooo HOW SPOOKY! and then…. The next phase of prisoner capture begins stay tuned…. If a friendly player is within 5 meters during the 30 second CHOKE HOLD, the infiltrator will be able to DETAIN an enemy soldier indefinitely. If a successful detainment has been made, that captured solders friendly arrow would disappear off the map. The only notification your squad would have if one of your friendly has been captured is that they would not be responding to radio communication. The enemy soldier will only be released if the infiltrator is killed OR *If the friendly player then moves outside a 10 meter radius from the infiltrator, he can no longer help escort the enemy soldier, and movement speed of the infiltrator with the detained soldier will be 50% slower... If enough time elapses without a friendly nearby the enemy solder would eventually struggle free and be released… SIDE NOTE* There is an option to use hand cuffs, so even if the solder got free his hands would be tide. He could still run and would have to get to a friendly ammo crate to get a gun again. This provides a balanced way allowing the solder to escape but not fully effective unless he makes it back to a ammo box! NEW BUILD-ABLE STRUCTURE: PRISON CELL The squad leader will now be able to place a prison cell at the cost of 300 supplies, where the captured enemy soldiers will be held for further communication hacking and interrogation, assuming you have made it all the way back to your friendly fob position with a captured solder! NOTE:The prison cell could have a requirement of having to be placed on a friendly controlled objective as an alternative to a fob radio location. Once you are a prisoner, you are stripped of all your gear and cannot communicate with your squad. If there are 2 or more prisoners in the cell, they will have the ability to escape from the prison cell by performing a set of actions to create their escape, this escape should take some time, maybe 1-2min to achieve maybe longer…, and could be anything from creating a makeshift key, to digging a hole, or what ever the devs feel is most realistic. MOST IMPORTANTLY I want to portray the idea that the prisoners can escape somehow because it should be important to allow the prisoners some sort of gameplay and or goal / hope for escape or rescue.. Naturally, this would create the need for a guard to be on duty watching the prisoners for any suspicious behavior. The only form of communication the prisoner has is proximity chat with the enemy team. Players who are Prisoners will have their sprint speed and stamina increased due to having their gear removed, the only way to rearm if you escape is at a ammo crate. As I develop the idea for capturing enemy solders and taking prisoners, I am trying to keep in mind ways to allow the captured player to still have a way to escape or have control of their character. If a enemy solder is successfully captured it provides another objective on the battlefield, your squad will have incentive to rescue them especially if there're multiple prisoners and they all have their coms hacked so the enemy knows exactly what your plans are. Imagine if you captured a squad leader… no rally points… enemy squad would have to form new squad and all spawn fob. This could be a great way to turn the tide of battle in a unique way. Also providing incentive for rescue missions because every person in the prison cell will reduce their team's ticket count by 3 for every minute that goes by. Example: If there are 2 prisoners in the cell, their team's ticket count would go down by 6 every minute! Personally I cannot dream of all the ideas that could be had from this. I have elaborated on just a few game play ideas this could come from this. But the possibilities are endless. Imagine rescue missions with helicopters to the enemy prison cell to rescue a captured squad leader. Just a side note here that I wrote most of this while listening to the squad music on the main screen. I really like this game and the music! I think this idea or something like it would bring squad to a whole new level in a multitude of ways. SQUAD LEADER RANKING/ ALL PLAYER LEVELING SYSTEM I think for some time now, squad has needed a way to show case your skill in the game. I also think there could be a cool system where all the squad members could RATE their squad leader and that rating stayed with him. Also along with this Implement a leveling or ranking system for all players with the objective to showcase your experience level within the game. SILENCERS And lastly, allow squad leader, one rifleman class, and maybe a select few other classes to have access or the option to equip a silencer to their weapon! As you can see the main themes of my ideas are SNEAK, GRAB, DETAIN, CAPTURE, INFILTRATE, COMMUNICATION, PRISONER, I think going forward squad should evaluate types of game play that new ideas bring into the game. These ideas presented are very much centered away from shooting and explosions and reward the players for being sneaky, patient, cleaver, and perceptive. We have plenty of options for shooting and exploding things, now's a time for something new and unique. Having options to sneak, capture, infiltrate communications, work together, which is what squad is all about. The infiltrator will require friendly's nearby in order to fully be effective at his game play. These elements that the infiltrator bring aren't as deadly or as immediate as a gun or exploitation but in the long run provide a very realistic advantage to your team and threat to your enemy's team! I love this game and I hope you enjoyed reading this post if you made it this far! See you on the battlefield, Gnarleus out

  20. Tried searching for these on the forum, did not find. 1)Just would be helpful if the SL rank icon popped up next his name when ever he was speaking on the bottom left. Same for any FTLs. 2) I suggest the command channel is louder by default than the squad channel and makes a different noise when someone begins speaking. I know the command channel can get hectic too but if the command channel were more "intrusive" i feel we would all just resort to using the number pad more. Probably like it should be. 3)When the commander comes along he should be able to message 2 or 3 squads simotaneously rather than repeating the same thing to 3 squads. So no one else has to hear it that is not applicable. The ability for the commander to group up certain squads into one mail list (so to speak). He could have a list on one side of the screen with the different SLs he could drag them into created groups for himself. When he wanted to talk to them he just needs to click on the top of their group list. "3 techies approaching from the north" all heard by squad 3,4,5 and 6. Or possibly a check box system where all SLs checked receive his transmission. Maybe both.
  21. One of the first things you'll notice playing Squad is that regardless of hours played you will experience either one of several things at the few seconds before spawning in; No Mic: Sound of crickets New players: Tend to still be finding their SL (Squad Leader) Voice and maybe reluctant to speak up in the briefing, resulting in a deadly silence. Nobody is planning or talking. Slightly more experienced players: Have their SL voice but sometimes may speak rather than listen and if you have a few of these types on Platoon Net (Inter-Squad Comms) it can become hugely cluttered and nothing gets organised. One person or many people shout "I'm grabbing a logi and building a fob here" Experienced players, serious gamers and born naturals: This is when "it just works". You don't have to be a veteran at Squad but if you have mutual respect and convey your intentions and ideas right then it becomes a greater gaming experience. When you hear this, this is when you hear "This is why i bought this game" Players (SL's) working together and laying out tasks and objectives. Everyone takes their turn, puts their point across and comes together to form a perfect game plan that results in either a win or just fantastic gameplay. (Sadly this either has to happen in such a short space of time that it rarely happens or when it does its cut short by only a matter of 15 - 20 seconds) Now while all of these are fine, different people are what make communities and understanding that well organised clans, groups or communities may simple dominate the briefing, this post is more about everyone else, the new guys and the people just here to enjoy squad, the pick up and play guys or the people that bought squad to be immersed in its structure Squad leadership and tactics and found themselves disappointed by lack of communication or teamwork through bad planning. So I propose either extend the briefing time by 20 seconds to allow Squad leads who have not played together before, enough time to coordinate. or A ready up system where Squad Leads ready up (not their squad members). Example; Once the squad leads are finished briefing they themselves ready up forcing the match to start, giving them the right amount of time to plan and strategize. You could parallel the ready up system with a timer just to force the match to start in those situations where either an SL is AFK or the opposing team are taking too long.
  22. (Image Source: DoD photo by Master Sgt. Andy Dunaway, U.S. Air Force, photo from article here) Summary: I have the following suggestion concerning the radio and local voice chat. Add the new function "focus-listening" which allows to focus-listen on one particular channel while automatically tuning down the volume of the other channels. Let me explain in more details what I mean and how it could work. How does this feature work: When listing on radio or local chat to conversations, you hold Left-Shift and the corresponding key of the channel you want to listen to. While you do this, the volumes of the other channels are lowered while the full volume of the "focused-listened channel" remains, allowing you to clearly understand what's being said there. I consider this feature not only extremely useful but also realistic. In the real world when using your mobile phone, you often cover your other ear with your hand to cancel out environmenal noices and other people's chatter. A radio can be used exactly in the same way. This also works the other way around. If you hold your radio away from your ear, the radio voices are muted while you can focus on the person speaking next to you. My rationale for focus-listening to one particular radio channel and ignoring other radio channel is this: with a walkie-talkie you would listen only to one particular channel at any given time, not ALL available channel. On a music radio you also listen to only one station, not all stations at the same time. I admit that I don't know how military radios work, but I assume they also listen only to one channel at a time, right? Focus-listening would work just the same once we get radio channels for each squad (numpad 1 to 9). Just hold the Left-Shift and the corresponding number on the numbpad. While you hold down the focus-listen key, you see onscreen an coloured indicator (lets call it "focus-listen indicator") that tells you A: you are currently focus-listening and B: on which channel you are doing this (the indicator is using the colour of the channel, i.e. blue, green or red). It could look like the following icon - it's similar to the speaker icon we see when we actively speak on a channel. The icon below intents to look like an ear shape - please excuse my lack of designer skills - but you get the idea. This icon could appear exactly at the same spot where the speaker icon appears, as both icons cannot appear at the same time (you cannot focus-listen and speak at the same time - to speak, you have to let go of the Left-Shift key). I think the "focus-listen indicator" alone is probably not enough visualization. When focus-listing is active we should also highlight or mark incoming channels in some way to show which of them you are focusing on and which you are ignoring - this will help you even more to home in to the channel you are really interested in and make clear which person you are currently listening to. Here some ideas how this could be visulized on the HUD. Of course, this is optional and just an additional way of aiding the player. Suggestion 1: Use a lighter font colour for un-focused incoming channels and the normal dark font colour on focused channels. Downside: depending on the background, this could be hard to read. I don't like this idea much. Suggestion 2: Cross out channels you are not focusing on. I like this idea. The cross-out is a simple and intuitive visual hint to the player. Suggestion 3: We could also highlight the channel you listen to with an additional icon or marking of some kind. I have no specific idea, but we sure could come up with some design. All these HUD ideas are just my first thoughts/concepts how we can visually indicate focus-listing to the player. I am sure if we set AJAX or the devs to the task they will come up with something much better and workable. Game settings could look like this: We also need the ability to rebind the "Shift" key, as the focus-listener modifier, to another key. Not everybody has long enough fingers to easily reach B when holding Shift. Example: As a Squad Leader you want to focus-listen to an important conversation on the Squad Leader radio channel and ignore loud chatter on the squad radio. You hold Left-Shift and G on your keyboard for as long as you want to focus-listen to the Squad Leader radio channel. While you do this, you will hear the Squad Leader channel on full volume while any chatter on the Squad radio and local voice chat is tuned down and hardly audible. This allows you to fully follow the converation on the Squad Leader channel. Additional sub-features/variations: 1. Optional feature "mute environmental sounds" (highly recommended): We could even go further and reduce the surrounding environmental sounds while we focus-listen on any channel. This is still realistic, as this would also happen in the real world if you covered your ears with your hands and the radio. The benefit of this would be to reduce surrounding noices like machine gun fire and therefore being able to hear what is being said on the radio even in noisy situations. A really useful feature. If we want to be hyper realistic, reducing environmental noises only works when focus-listening to radio channels and not local voice chat as you can hold shut one ear to cancel out the environmental sounds while you press the radio close to your other ear, but you can't do that in any form when listening to local voices next to you with your open ears. 2. Optional feature "close both ears/gun&hand-free vision" (nice-to-have): And for the fun (and realism of it), we can also assign a new button that represents holding shut both your ears with both your hands, i.e. all sounds are slightly muted. If we want to go even further, add animations that have the gun and your hands disappear from view when we do this. Additional benefit: this feature would help taking scenic screenshots without a gun and hands in the way - NICE! I admit, it's a silly idea as muting all sounds in general does not really serve a useful purpose (if you want that, you just turn down your computer/headset speakers) but having a gun/hand-free vision would be really useful to take screenshots. Therefore, completely independent of my suggestion here, we could assign a new key to select no equipment/weapon (for example key 0 (zero) or any other key; it could also just be a console command). This will just remove the hands and weapons/equipment entirely from the screen. Just an idea. I may bring this up in a new suggestions thread some time in the future. 3. Optional feature "use both hands" (not recommended): For hard-core realism, when using focus-listening, force players to let go of the mouse and use both hands on the keyboard to simulate that they would not have a free hand to fire a gun while focus-listening to the radio as both hands are needed to do this. Possible keyboard shortcuts to achieve this: hold down three keys far across from each other on the keyboard, for example Left-Shift + Right-Shift + channel key. This is just taking the original idea further, but in my opinion too far. This would make using the focus-listen feature too annoying and would compromise its practical use ingame. I thought I just mention the idea here to show that taking an idea too far turns it into something counterproductive. Why do we need this feature: We all know that it's hard to follow ANY conversation when you are overwhelmed by simulatenous conversation on multiple channels. This is particularly difficult for Squad Leaders who have to speak on three channels. Yes, as Squad Leader you can tell your guys on the Squad radio to shut up and ask the other Squad Leader to repeat his statement, but often it's annoying and often people won't listen. Yes, the real world is also messy and noisy and you have to deal with it. But in the real world you also have your hands which you can use to cover your ears and you don't listen to multiple channels at the same time. Adding focus-listening to the game would make listening much easier while still being realistic. The control scheme I propose is simple and intuitive. It will not make things more complicated. It will add another level of realism to the game and is just plain practical. I consider this feature as important because it will help communication in Squad - and communication is THE key feature of Squad. Lets make communciation as good and effective as possible. Focus-listening is a small but powerful and useful feature to help with this. Give my post a "Like" if you want to see this feature implemented. The guy in picture below says loud and clearly: "We NEED this feature, ASAP!" What speaks against this feature: Nothing I can think of. I just don't know if it can be easily implemented with Mumble or not. (Image Source: Copyright Steve R., direct link, more amazing picture by Steve here)
  23. In an effort to increase strategic realistic game play, I request that all players be able to hear local communications from both teams. It is kind of unrealistic that the enemy cannot hear our local communications and us not being able to hear the enemy's. With this implementation, the enemy names would NOT show up like the friendly coms names do.
  24. I thought of something that could enhance the realism to radio communications, I don't know if it's workable and whether it is, I know it will not be the priority, but let me explain. If during radio communication with another squadleader/commander you could hear gunfire background... voices of other members of the squad in the background inside your radio. What would you think?
  25. Radio channel idea.

Hey, I don't know if DEVs still read these, I have been sidetracked to RL too long. Here it is anyway. This idea did pop to my head while reading this really nice "How to be an effective medic" it pinpoints most of the good stuff. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=597327421 Anyway... Maybe it would be highly beneficial to make a system where medics have access to "Commander channel", this would open communication directly between squads two medics. This would improve the teamwork of two medics. This same feature could be used in the way that there would be radiocircle between all riflemans and one circle between granadier, engineer and gunner. Something to consider?
