  1. Hey there,

    if you installed Squad for the first time (for e.g. after a clean Windows installation) and you install a Squad Mod, you may experience that you can't join a server running this mod, but others can. The reason for that is, that the registry key holding the Squad installation path is no longer be created in this location in registry.

    To fix that (this is a temporary workaround until it gets fixed in Squad), you need to create the "old" registry key manually.

    If Squad is installed in the default location

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Squad

    then you just need to download the following reg file, unzip and execute it:

    Squad_a-11-0_Modding_Hotfix.zip

    If Squad is installed in a different location like

    D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Squad

    you need to open the reg-file (right click and choose "Edit") and change the "install_path" from

    "install_path"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Squad"

    to

    "install_path"="D:\\SteamLibrary\\steamapps\\common\\Squad"

    (notice the double backslashes \\ )

    so that the file content looks like this:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OffworldIndustries]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OffworldIndustries\Squad]
    "install_path"="D:\\SteamLibrary\\steamapps\\common\\Squad"

    Save the file and execute it. Your mods should work fine again!

    Have fun!

  2. For everyone who has issues with 8GB RAM and Squad: can you post a screenshot of your pagefile configuration here please?

    Thanks.

    The point for asking is: there is a known bug in the engine code which causes memory leaks. This shall be fixed within the next version Squad is going to upgrade to - UE4.16.

    For now just make sure, that you have a pagefile configured and the size of it is at least 16GB (for 8GB RAM). You can configure it dynamically (with min. and max. values) or you select "System managed size". This should prevent you from restarting the game after every map.

  3. @Cpt.Myers: is the windows server running on a virtual machine? If so, you would need to run it non virtualized ("real" hardware).

    It could also be, that your CPU is running in "power save" or "balanced" mode. Make sure to set it to "performance".

    What else is running on that machine? Could be that not enough RAM is available for the squad server.

  4. For 4k setting not adjustable, please try the following:

    - open the file %localappadata%\Squad\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini

    - search for these entries and change it to your 4k resolution settings:

    ResolutionSizeX=1920
    ResolutionSizeY=1080
    LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeX=1920
    LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeY=1080
    .
    .
    DesiredScreenWidth=1920
    DesiredScreenHeight=1080

    I can't test it here as I don't have a 4k monitor. Please report if it works and probably add some infos if you changed something else to make it work. thx :)

  5. For me it sounds like a re-education measure when you want to force the squad members to stay near SL by giving them a reduced visual field on the map. Maybe you just trying to solve a player (in your opinion) behaviour problem by the game itself. If you are a good SL then tell the guys to stick together. Those who don't react on your orders -> kick them out of your squad.

    With all due respect to @Norby why couldn't he post the OWI V7.4 test session "Here"...This is the place,if you know what i mean!?. ;)

    Ta much Dev's...

    I guess it's because you get a system notification (default discord settings), if someone writes to "@everyone" and there are already some hundreds on the server and most people have discord in the background running (start with windows)...but these are all just guesses...

  7. Yesterday Norby requested on discord to fill up the OWI test server. He gave us the PW for the beta branch. Unfortunately the max. player count (what I have seen) was about 45 players. For a better test 72 players where needed. But the server emptied quickly after 1 hour.

    It would be nice if more guys join the squad community discord server and join such full-server-load tests and give a constructive feedback after such a test session.

    I recommend to restart your PCs after Squad updates. I had no issues while playing after the update - only after closing the game (had the same issue on 7.3 release but a PC restart fixed it).

    From my perspective the game runs smoother on some maps, on others (like Sumari) I have low fps from round start on. I played for about 2 - 3 hours with 3-4 map changes -> NO fatal error crashes and NO other crash during this time.

    Still good. It works perfectly in many modern games, including GTA V. (I know GTA V is AAA and Squad is not). I dont have any problems with using Blender on this resolution. I dont have any problems with making my own horrible scripts. And, i dont have to watch horribly stretched images when playing good ol' RPG's. CRT MASTERRACE!

    The game is still in alpha stage of development. When it will be released then I believe there will be 4:3 support available :)

    What is your PC spec? I guess when it's also "outdated" then you won't be happy with playing Squad.

    Ok. How about my pc specs? Will this suck the life out of my pc or am I able to be at 50-60fps. Of course every pc is unique but overall the signs are there: AMD ruined, intel ok.

    The FPS is varying based on different criterias. But I guess with your specs you will get at least 30 - 50 fps on full servers (72 players) and up to 100+ fps on almost empty servers. Depends on your settings, the server and and and.

    If you buy the game you can give it back before you reach 2 hrs playtime (steam wallet refund). If you want to give it a try: do it. If you want to go safe: wait for full release. Decide for yourself.

    Thanks for the reply. But for right now, is the game playable? I understand the alfa stage completely and what it demands/brings with it. I played total war attila:) trust me I know alfa. Just don't want to buy this and get immediately fatal errored to my face. Fatal error for every coupple of hours is ok. Every 30 mins not. Hope you understand what I mean.

    The current state is that the game crashes on mostly every round start (after map change). I can play at least 1 or 2 rounds in a row without a crash.

  12. Epic is redesigning the whole audio system for UE4. Currently they are using an audio library from microsoft (XAudio2). In the past, if you had a good audio card for gaming like a creative x-fi, the difference ingame was very high. I remember in 2003 or 2004 when Battlefield Vietnam came out, in the first I played with onboard sound...then after some weeks I bought a Creative Audigy2 sound card. The difference was incredible. I've heard things I never heard before in this game. Everything so clear and a lot of "new" ambient sound.

    In my understanding (maybe I'm wrong here - correct me if you know it better) the XAudio2 audio library uses the cpu for rendering the sound. On sound card only the DAC (digital analog converter) is used for audio output on your phones or speakers. This means: the difference can't be that enormous like with EAX supported games for e.g.

    According to the UE roadmap, the audio system redesign shall be finished in October this year https://trello.com/b/gHooNW9I/ue4-roadmap . But this appointment was deffered several times before (so maybe it will be there in october, maybe not). But if then more features are supported by modern sound cards - I don't know.

    But also if only the DAC is used of the sound cards - a gain of audio quality in general can be achieved. But for that you need to get a relatively good sound card with "big" capacitors for the DAC on it. The bigger the capacitors, the better the sound output is.

    For e.g. look at the images (without cover) of this sound card here:

    http://en.europe.creative.com/p/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-zxr

    A lot of big capacitors for a more natural (realistic) sound output.

    Then look at this sound card:

    http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2013/02/11/creative-sound-blaster-z-review/2

    Smaller capacitors. I don't want to say, that the sound blaster z is a bad card. But you can see the difference between the capacitors on both cards.

    About external sound cards (or USB audio interfaces): you have to test it. I guess it also depends on your PC and how the power supply is shielded. A friend of mine bought a very good terratec USB audio interface for his Notebook (also a very good HP Notebook for about 2000 €), but he had disturbing noises on his speakers which came from the Notebook. We tried alot of things..shielded all cables -> still disturbing noises.

    Try to find a good external USB audio card with the chance to exchange it if you have disturbing noises - thats my proposal for you.

    What a useless link, nearly all of them have zero replies. It would be nice if people look at what they are linking to before hand. Bad job dude.

    The only useless thing is your reply :D

    If you are to lazy to read some of the threads there: don't blame me Mr. Sloth xD

    Edit: and by the way - I have read some posts there....the answer about UE4 and SLI/CF is there....find it ;)

  14. 1 minute ago, Helix said:

    How about you include something other than the link im not reading every single post in that forum. Still SLI was working way better before the update so.... it was supported by UE4 to some degree.

    If you like my post -> ok

    If you don't like my post -> ok

  15. It's a fact, that a lot of people across the world are mental underexposed, densed, dimmed or how you like to describe it. It's not my purpose to offend them....it is just like it is. Other people with higher cognitive skills get it very fast, that Squad is currently in a alpha state of development - but that doesn't mean that they know what alpha means in SW development.

    I guess we just have to be patient with those comments (I responded also some days ago on such a comment...demonsie me if you want). You can write thousand times and more (as it happend in this forums here and on other forums) that this game is still in alpha and that you can read on steam what does it mean when you buy a "Early Access Game" BEFORE you buy it - the flood of unqualified comments won't stop. I bet 2 or 3 comments below this one here that the ****storm continues.

    But don't get me wrong! Again - I don't want to offend someone here. Some are more clever, some are less clever. It is like it is - without judgment.
